India, with its rich history and culture, has also been well known for being a pioneer in sexual education, practices, and discourse. The ancient Indians have been quite open about their sexuality, the fundamentals of which are believed to be intertwined with religion. The earliest Indian culture is popularly believed to have open sexual relationships, highly erotic sexual literature, paintings, and artworks. This can be attested by the artifacts and literature of the Indian culture that have survived to this day, which shed light on the sensual nature of Indian lovemaking.

When talking about Indian history on sex, one highly renowned element of it always comes up, which is the ‘Kama Sutra’. The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian text on sexuality, eroticism, and a guide on the pleasures achieved by humans during sexual practices. This text is renowned for including a lot of sexual positions. India is also unique with respect to the geographical location as it has high mountains up north while oceans surrounding the rest of the country. The region, having a rich history and culture of its own, deserves to be examined in isolation and not in combination with the rest of the ancient world.
