Every story has a beginning and GOJEK’s started from a 25-square meter call center with 20 drivers partners. Now we are working with more than 2 million driver partners and our app has been downloaded by more than 125 million times.

Every day it’s getting more and more challenging. It’s not easy to find which set of data will define our future and which shouldn’t be our priority. This is the reason why we urgently need a team with a vehement passion for data to join our journey. We are looking for people who can find the needle in a haystack and tell us where can it bring us.

How important are we, the Business Intelligence (BI) team, in GOJEK journey?

We deal with a vast data warehouse and we have a strong belief that data is the key to our growth. Every single decision we make here is based on data. What is our next expansion plan? We go to our database. What service should we open next year? Let’s go through our data. What do our customers want? You know where to go.

The data that we gathered and analyzed is aimed to find interesting insights and ultimately answer all of businesses questions, and create a better experience for our users. We are deeply in love with data and we encourage everyone in GOJEK to see the power and importance of data.

We see data as a voice from our users that if we don’t listen carefully would be buried under piles of irrelevant information. We, therefore, build our data infrastructure to make sure that it’s scalable because we continue to build new products. In our team, automation also plays a fundamental role because this level of scale makes it important to automate everything so we can move faster without creating chaos in the system.

Given this unlimited data, BI team plays an important role to find a solution to problems like how to make sure that users can get their drivers without waiting too long or what food the people in one city have been craving for in the last few months.

An example of how we help to drive our growth is when we launched the Place of Interest (POI) feature. Despite helping our users to meet their drivers faster, we understand that some pick-up points aren’t as effective as the others. There are a lot of possibilities behind this. Maybe POI X is harder to find than the nearby POI Y, or more difficult for drivers to access.

We will then read between the lines about what is happening there. How long is the average time to pick up passengers? How many successful transactions were made there in one day? How about the failure rate?

We then dig into our data, check the average time spent in the pickup process, or how long the in-app conversations were made before the passengers were actually picked up, and other related data that might be relevant. This range of information will then be translated into an insight for the product team to fix the issue.

Who are we looking for?

GOJEK Business Intelligence Division deals with cutting edge issues from translating raw data to a compelling narrative, creating a data-driven culture and build impactful products. We believe that Data is power and you are the light that will guide us to use that power.

We are looking for people with a high passion for data to identify problems hiding in a pile of numbers and information and deliver a scientific approach in problem-solving. Aside from the strong passion for data, the person should have strong technical and communication skills.

From the technical side, we look for people who are experienced in operating Phyton and Java. We also desire people who are comfortable in using production-grade data processing tools such as BigQuery, Kafka, Pub/Sub, Dataflow and Flink
