The Expression of Your Soul’s Calling

The calling of your soul can be expressed in many forms.

• It can be expressed in black and white or in color.
• It can be expressed through the lens of a camera.
• It can be expressed through still images or motion pictures.
• It can be expressed through words constructed with pens, pencils and paper.
• It can be expressed on a canvas with pain brushes, water colors and spray cans.
• It can be expressed in a billion dollar startup or an artisan bakery.
• It can be expressed through the strings of a guitar or through our own vocal chords.
• It can be expressed in non-profits, causes, and movements.
• It can be expressed in listening, healing and serving as a guiding light for those who are in the dark.

But above all things it’s an expression of what we know in our hearts we MUST do, what we feel compelled to leave behind so that our time here actually mattered.

The expression of your soul’s calling may take many forms throughout the creation of your body of work.

My first expression was as a writer.

My second expression was in telling other people’s stories through interviews

My third expression was an attempt to make visual art.

And the expression of my soul’s calling collided with someone else’s.

When artists work together what happens is an expansion, explosion and collision of their callings to bring something to life that couldn’t have existed in isolation.

The calling is not a destination, but a journey fueled by curiosity, wild eyed wonder and the by the search for answers to questions like this one?

Some people spend a lifetime searching for the expression of their soul’s calling. Others spend a lifetime living it. And maybe you only get to experience it for a minute, a still image in the tapestry that we get to create over the course of our lives.

But as Al Pacino said before he danced the tango in Scent of a Woman,

“Some people live a lifetime in a minute.”
