Lifestyle journalism has experienced enormous growth in the media over the past two decades, but it is still sometimes seen as “not real journalism” or criticized as “soft” news or too closely aligned with advertising and public relations. Yet this type of journalism is increasingly popular with audiences. This course strives to incorporate an understanding of journalism beyond “hard news” and the “watchdog” role, combining practical skills with a conceptual understanding of how this form of journalism is increasingly relevant for the 21st century. Above all, it stresses how to do lifestyle journalism with integrity. We are focusing on a variety of sub-fields such as travel, music, movies, arts and food, along with students’ special interests. You will find their work under the tabs at the top of the page. They will be tweeting, posting on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest to promote their stories, and we will follow the traffic with web analytics. Please share with others the stories you like best. We hope you enjoy their work and come back often!
