Lovely Lit Up community,

Our big news is finally here and we are all so very excited!

We are here to celebrate the creation of our Literary Magazine!

Yes! Lit Up — The Land of Little Tales will now have its own home in this world!

This is a project we’ve been working on for some time, a chance to stretch ourselves a bit further into the world and to showcase our wonderful writers in a broader arena. Our vision for the magazine is all about quality of writing and of imagination, and a desire to create a strong writing community, committed to striving for excellence. We’re hoping to give a bigger spotlight to our writers and to fiction and poetry online as well, to encourage diversity in literature, where wonderful writing can be enjoyed and stories can burst out of any preconceived notions of style or genre.

The Lit Up magazine will start as an electronic version (but we are aiming to have it in print with the new year as well if the online version performs well), featuring exceptional short stories (yes, we’re still the Land of the Little Tales!) and poets of every kind, and including author, agent and publisher interviews, writing workshops, a regular blog on all aspects of writing with some of our best writers, and editorial services for short stories, poetry and creative nonfiction.

The submission process for the magazine will, of course, be different — we’ll be test-driving an entirely new process. New work will be available to subscribers and the best of previously published Lit Up tales on Medium will be featured in the free section of our new mag!

It’s going to be a literary treat — I promise!

The official presentation of the magazine will take place soon. Keep an eye on the upcoming newsletters!

And it doesn’t end here!

WE ARE HAVING OUR FIRST EVER CONTEST!

To celebrate our launch for which we have worked so hard and into which we have put so much of our heart, we decided to have a real contest, separate from our Medium prompts with cash rewards and the opportunity to get published in our first Lit Up anthology and our brand new mag’s first issue! (More info on the contest below)

Please note: The Lit Up anthology #1 is not accepting submissions other than contest participants at this time.

Don’t forget to follow the profile of Lit Up where we will be posting details about the prompt, the magazine, and many other literary goodies:

Lit Up’s Contest #1

Crossroads

Life is full of decisions we make, taking us along one road or down another.

There are moments where unpredicted happiness makes us glow, where events we hoped for are abandoned on the way, dreams lying forgotten by the roadside and sometimes the choices we make bring pain or joy in ways utterly unforeseen, for ourselves and for those we love.

Here is your chance to explore and illustrate the way our choices can change the roads in our lives in ways expected and unexpected.

Write a short story that focuses on the pivotal decisions that influenced a life or lives and the consequences of those decisions. Give us your magical words, sprinkle the letters with your magnificent and unique writing style, perfect your prose with your most poetic lines.

Maximum word count is 3000 words.

Entries are judged on the skills of the writing — originality, readability, engagement, characterisation and meaning delivered — and on the close adherence to the theme. There is no restriction on genre but only fiction and creative nonfiction will be accepted.

No poetry or novel excerpts for this competition, please.

Please note:

Entries need to be the author’s original work and not previously published.

• First prize: $ _100__ and featured publication in The Lit Up anthology #1

• Second prize: $_30___ and publication in The Lit Up anthology #1

• Third prize: $_20__ and publication in The Lit Up anthology #1

• Selected entries will be featured in Lit Up’s new literary magazine (online version).

•Selected entries will be featured in Lit Up’s first anthology.

•Selected entries will be published on Lit Up on Medium.

Entry fee: $2

Submissions Open: 10 October 2018

Deadline: 10 November 2018 (23:59 UTC time)

Maximum number of entries per writer: 2

Don’t forget that maximum word count is 3000 words. Longer works will not be accepted.

Advice:

Take the time to ensure your drafts are read through and presented in the most professional manner possible, with a minimum of typos and grammatical errors, and formatted to standard, accepted publishing conventions

Additional info:

•All selected entries for publication in print will need the author’s signed agreement.

•Authors whose work will be selected for publication will be contacted personally by DiAmaya Dawn through email so make sure the email you provide is correct.

•Entry fees for disqualified stories will not be returned so, please, make sure your entry meets all requirements mentioned above before submitting.

You will need a PayPal account in order to receive cash rewards. If Western Union is used, the author has to take care of the charges (which means the charges will be deducted from the prize).

  • Lit Up will keep first and exclusive publication (electronic and print) rights from entries selected for publication out of Medium for a period of six (6) months after which all rights will return to the author.

All ready to start writing?

Good luck!

Much love to all of you,

DiAmaya Dawn
