I had recently returned to the United States after a 10-day mission trip to Peru. I was preparing for my first day back at work, but I couldn’t force myself to get out of bed.

I was dizzy, my head was pounding, and I had stabbing pain in my belly.

Before the day was over, I found myself in the emergency room at our local hospital. After several weeks of rest and medication, I was able to return to work. (You can read the details here).

Unfortunately, my doctors found some issues with some of my test results. While most of the test results were normal for a guy in his 50’s, they needed correction.

I needed to lose 40 pounds, reduce my body fat, lower my blood sugar levels, and reduce cholesterol levels. They found that I was overweight, out of shape, and in danger of having a heart attack or stroke.

I needed to do something to lose weight and get back in shape but I didn’t know what to do.

I did know that I didn’t want a quick fix, I wanted permanent change.

Maybe you are at the same point that I was.

Maybe you want to make permanent changes to your health but you don’t know how.

Maybe you have tried diet and exercise programs in the past.

Maybe you have not been able to make the permanent changes that you desire.

You are not alone.

In fact, UCLA researchers found that,

“Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people.” (Source)

I didn’t want to be one of these statistics, so I spent much of 2017 learning how to lose weight and improve my health.

Here is some of what I learned.

What I learned, helped me to lose 40 pounds, reduce my body fat from 32% to 20%, and reduce my cholesterol from 205 to 170.

Over to you…

Over the next several posts I will be sharing what I have learned on my journey to improve my health and fitness. I hope that sharing what I learned along the way can help you with your own journey to improved health.

Now, I’d like to hear from you. What have you done to improve your health? Where do you get stuck? What else do you want to know?
