Introduction

The Delhi Metro brand has to be redesigned— the government wants to connect with younger commuters, and you’re being hired to do the redesign.

You can invent any details you want. Assume that the government has provided you with infinite resources for the campaign.

What Do I Have To Do?

Depending on your discipline (design, web design, audio, video editing, etc.), follow one of the prompts given below.

You can use the learning resources we’ve provided.

Submitting Your Entry

  • Fill out this form.
  • Specific submission instructions are given along with each of the prompts that follow.
  • In general, we want a link to a Google Drive folder that contains your exported files (images, PDFs, audio files, etc.) and your project files. Put a readme.txt / readme.pdf file in your folder explaining the entry.
  • Participation is strictly individual. Team entries will not be considered.

Deadline

The deadline is 23:59:59 on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Design

Your task is to design a series of billboards that will be placed at strategic locations around Delhi — at bus stops, at tourist attractions and at common locations for auto-rickshaws. You must also design a metro card: the card that people swipe at the station to pay for their trip.

Design at least 2 billboards.

Technologies

You can use any illustration software (Sketch, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Affinity Designer, MS Paint, etc.).

Note for those in classes 6 & 7

You can submit a presentation.

Web Design & Development

Design and build a website for the Delhi Metro. Your website must have at least 2 of the following features / pages:

  • Homepage
  • Map of metro lines
  • Lines to take to get from one location to the other
  • Buy / refill a metro card
  • Get transit times, metro timings, delays & cancellations
  • Price of tickets

The features need not be functional (e.g. for the price of tickets, just use some dummy data).

It must also have 1 other feature of your own choosing.

Technologies & Submission

You can use any web technologies you want (and you can write a backend too if you wish) but make sure you send us a link to a Drive folder or a hosted website (you can use GitHub Pages, Surge.sh, Zeit Now to host). Hosted websites will be appreciated, since we’ll be able to review your entry faster.

Audio

You have two options

  • Create a relaxing track that will play while people are waiting for their metro.
  • Create an electronic remix of the announcements that come over the PA system.

Technologies

Use any audio editor of your choice. FL Studio, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live or Audacity are recommended.

Video

Create a video introducing the Delhi Metro. Emphasize the speed, safety and eco-friendliness of the metro. If you’re doing audio as well, use your audio in the video.

There’s no time limit, but we recommend that your video be 1–3 minutes long.

Technologies

Use any video editor of your choice.

3D Modelling

Create a 3D model of the interior of a metro car. Keep in mind that you’re targeting younger commuters.

Technologies

Blender is recommended. Usage of textures and HDRs from the internet is allowed, however materials must be original. Participants have to send the .blend / .mb / .3ds and an .obj / .stl file as well as at least 3 renders.

Other

If we missed something, contact us through the channels given below and we’ll create a special prompt for you around the same theme.

What am I being judged on?

  • Originality: The more imaginative the better.
  • Creativity: Don’t be afraid of letting your imagination flow. Think out of the box.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: No one likes pink cursive text against a black background. Design something that is good to look at.
  • Utilizing Resources: How good you are at what you used to make it.

How much can I take from the internet?

You may use the internet for stock images and stock videos (Unsplash is great for this purpose). Using templates and copying designs defeats the purpose and is prohibited. However, you may cite the source of the design in the bibliography if you have to absolutely use it.

How do I begin?

  • What is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of this?
  • What all could I do with it?

Based on the answers you get to these questions, write a small description of what you think the product (or service) is all about. Most importantly, don’t let these questions limit your submission.

I have another question. Whom should I contact?

Please feel free to contact us at exunclan@gmail.com or on Exun Clan’s Facebook Page with any questions or queries you may have. You may also contact any of the following students:

  • Vishrut Malik (12-J)
  • Kabir Goel (11-J)
  • Anirudh Chauhan (12-F)
  • Angad Singh (9-G)

Prompt by Kabir Goel, Vishrut Malik, Gursher Aujla and Aman Verma. Last year’s prompt can be found here.
