i’ve been studying music at university for over three years now, and one thing i’ve got out of it is music is driven, as well as drives, culture. new zealands a pretty precarious place in terms of the music we make. we punch well above our weight in what we produce, but we don’t really have a ‘kiwi sound’ (doitz six60). from the muso friends i’ve made, i’ve learnt that people here are inspired by so many diverse things from all over the world, and that often comes together to make a pretty unique sound. these are some stories, perceptions, ideas from some of these musicians i’ve come to know.
