A vision wherein both eyes work together, concurrently, equally and precisely as a coordinated team. Having an average visible acuity of 6/6 in each eye cannot be considered as a sharp vision. Sharp vision means there should not be eye strain, blurring or any other troubles, while reading or concentrating on near targets wherein binocular visual skills, must be proper.

In other words, Binocular vision is an ability to manage visual focus on a target with both eyes, producing a single optical image. Lack of binocular vision is common for children. Grown-ups without binocular vision sense distortions in depth perception & visual analysis of length.

Binocular Visual Skills:

  1. Tracking
    The tracking is the sense to move the eyes crosswise a sheet of paper
  2. Stereopsis
    Stereopsis is the capacity to see depth or 3D vision
  3. Visual Motor Integration
    Visual Motor Integration is the Hand-eye coordination
  4. Fusion
    Fusion is the sense to see separate pictures appeared in the Right and Left eye as a single picture
  5. Convergence & Divergence
    Convergence & Divergence are the experience of the eyes to move and work as a team

Why Binocular vision is important?

The binocular vision is the capacity to decide speed and depth of targets; it is one of the primary benefits. The people with poor or no binocular vision can have a problem with these following things.

  1. Estimating how fast a car is progressing while crossing roads
  2. Pouring fluids into a bowl
  3. Stepping up or down stairs
  4. Grabbing fast moving balls

Struggles while reading for a long time
Headaches
Difficulty tracking moving objects
Shortened attention span
Frustration while reading or writing
Complains of redness, burning, watering of eyes when reading
Double vision while reading & other vision problems
Skipping lines while reading

First, check your eyes with an ophthalmologist. Adults who are suffering binocular vision impairment treatment normally falls into one of three categories

  1. With Asthenopia
  2. With Strabismus or Without Diplopia
  3. With Amblyopia.
