My Heart Vase — photo by Elizabeth Lovius

Today I seem to be getting quite a few messages from ‘The Universe’ about things breaking. I read on facebook this morning

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.” — L.R. Knost

Whether or not you feel right now that all things can be mended, there is certainly a way to see through the broken parts of a thing — to the light — that can offer a fresh perspective. That is always possible — when we are returned to a space of love. Sometimes though we need to be sad and angry first. That’s ok too.

We now have a cat — he adopted us. The cat is an explorer cat, however the local neighbourhood watch kept being concerned about seeing the cat out and about so while we waited for his tracking collar to arrive, we have kept him inside. We have noticed that since then, he has been ‘exploring’ a lot more inside — especially on mantle pieces and tables where our precious objects are. He knocked off a special glass my son gave me (as a mother my presents from my sons are always so incredibly precious).

Then today he broke my precious heart vase that I was so delighted to find in a second hand shop — I use it to honour the Feminine with flowers — it is kind of a sacred special object to me. I felt heart broken. I know it was only a thing made of glass — but it held a special place in my home and my heart.

It’s hard not to take it personally, when something you love is broken. Whether it be a thing, a relationship, a future or the earth. Hard not to be angry, disappointed and frustrated. Not gonna lie — for me I was a little cross with the cat today.

But maybe that is ok. I needed to fully feel it, let myself be and feel exactly the way I was. Because, you know, I am human (although I am glad no-one else was around to hear it).

It’s normal and healthy to feel whatever you feel when there is a loss. When something is broken.

In the space after I had my little tantrum, a thought occurred to me. I can go to that second glass shop and find a new something for my mantlepiece. I can get pleasure and maybe even joy from consciously choosing a beautiful new thing — for that space. In that moment I felt hopeful again. A little bit more ok about the breakage. A little less attached to how it was. I also realised we need to let the cat out again — it’s time. Some cats want to be free. Good to know.

I think that is the way of things. All things break. Then at some point we can have a fresh perspective about it and find our way back home to being at peace with that. Often it is only then that we can see what we can do about it; to mend or accept or even benefit from the breakage. Then we find we can go on — as we must.

There are many things in life that this can apply to. Seeing as in the game of life where things are made of matter and matter so much, it is the truth that everything that comes, will go.

I am not sure that when things break, Loving intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally is always immediately available — but with a little space, a little grieving, a little letting go, a little surrender to what is — we can and do return to love — as it is who we already are.

At Core and in essence we are formless, spiritual energy. This is what is eternal and can never break.

When we come back home to ourselves — we discover what is truly permanent and already there. When we come back home to presence — we find our loving heart is waiting for us.

I find this deeply re-assuring in a world that can seem to me to be broken at times. Yet I do remain hopeful that I can bring the light. And I know you can too.
