Evutec AER Series iPhone X/Xs Karbon Black Case

In case you missed it, I recently shared my thoughts and experience with Evutec’s AER Series Burmese Rosewood iPhone X/Xs Case (Spoiler alert: It was great)! In this review, i’d like to follow up with a review of the Karbon Black version of the AER Series iPhone X/Xs Case.

At a glance:

  • Price: $39.99 (directly from Evutec’s website) or $33.99 (currently on Amazon)
  • Aramid Fiber exterior
  • 1.6 mm slim profile
  • Wireless charging compatible
  • EVUSOF+: Proprietary material that allows for better shock absorption while maintaining color and structural integrity

In the box:

  • Evutec AER Series iPhone X/Xs Wood Burmese Rosewood Case
  • AFIX+ Vent Mount

Initial Impressions

Similar to the Burmese Rosewood version, the Karbon Black is very light and has a low-profile which is great. However, rather than wood, this version features what Evutec calls “Aramid Fiber,” which is more commonly known as Kevlar. Kevlar is known for it’s high strength to weight ratio (which is 5 times stronger than steel of the same weight). It’s often used in armor and other applications, so it seems appropriate that it would be used on a protective case.

Similar to the Burmese Rosewood version, the Aramid Fiber back seamlessly transitions into TPU edges that are ridged to provide additional grip which is always so important to ensure your phone doesn’t accidentally slip out of your hands.

This case has a distinct style that feels more industrial and rugged, in comparison to the Burmese Rosewood version. If that’s something you like in a phone case, then you might particularly appreciate this case. Another difference you’ll notice is that the Karbon Black case has a raised edge around the camera cutout for added protection in case of a drop.

Other Features

Drop Protection. Evutec boasts “military-grade” drop protection that means this case will withstand a 4ft drop while protecting your phone.

AFIX+ Car Mount. Like the Burmese Rosewood version, the Karbon Black version comes with Evutec’s AFIX+ Magnetic Car Vent Mount which is a great additional accessory.

Wireless Charging. You’ll also be glad to know that your wireless charging capabilities wont be hindered due to Evutec’s creative solution of using 4 metal inserts that avoid blocking the charging coil.

You can read more about these features in my previous review.

Considerations

It’s tough to find anything to criticize in such a simply effective case, but I do have one thing to say. One thing I appreciated about the Burmese Rosewood case is that there was a felt lining on the inside to protect the back of your phone. This isn’t the case (pun definitely intended) with the Karbon Black version, which looks like an uncoated version of the exterior of the case. Fortunately, it’s not abrasive like wood would be, which is probably why Evutec decided not to include the felt lining. However, as someone who tends to be over-protective to their tech, it would have been a nice addition to include the additional protection.

The Bottom Line

Evutec seems to have their case quality down to a science. The quality of AER Series iPhone X/Xs Case is excellent. From the quality build to the thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing design, Evutec leaves very little to be desired. To top it all off, they throw in a magnetic car mount to meet form with function. At this price point, this case is a great value and i’d highly recommend it.
