Revelation Four
Always be thankful.
A lady at the ice cream shop hands a child an ice cream cone and Dad says to the child, “Now what do you say?” The little one follows with, “Thank you.”
Saying thank you is pleasing. It’s the way people show their agreement. It’s polite and respectful.

As people we are thankful for much. The help of a stranger. The goodness of our neighbor. Gestures of kindness and generosity are certainly worthy of gratitude.
When someone does something for us our recognition is often shown through the simple act of “thanking.” We express it with words or actions like returning favors or giving back.
Sometimes you don’t even have to give back to the same person. There’s a name for it, paying forward.
I sat down in a restaurant a couple days before Christmas. The place was full of lunchtime eaters next to a mall doing their last minute shopping. I had never eaten in this restaurant, one of those with a 50’s diner theme, specializing in burgers. Very lively.
The hostess asked if I minded sitting at the bar because I was alone and the tables were for multiple people. I didn’t mind at all.
I ordered, then fidgeted with my phone for a time. The conversation between the man next to me and his son led me to believe they were happy people having a ball finishing their shopping. We chatted. He asked if I was finishing my shopping also? I wasn’t, I finished days ago. I was just hungry and passing through the area.
He and his son left during the middle of my meal and wished me a Merry Christmas. Later, when I asked for my check the waitress told me it had been “taken care of” by the man sitting next to me.
What a wonderful thing to do. I felt thankful and joyful. I was a little disappointed I would never get to thank the nice man. He didn’t do it for thanks, which is what makes it all the better.
There are other ways to be thankful than saying, “Thank you.”
Here’s my interpretation of the fourth revelation of last June’s night revelations and it’s meaning to me:
Always be thankful.
Do not play the host of life, become the guest of life.
Think about that for a moment.
Read it again.
Do not play the host of life, become the guest of life.
When you are the gracious guest of life, you naturally live with thankfulness.
If you can let go of your need for control, you allow life to hand you it’s treasures and you become the recipient of all that life has in store for you.
Being thankful isn’t simply an act of saying or showing. It’s a way of living.
It requires opening yourself and allowing yourself to be lead. Being lead is not always easy but the more successful you are at it, the more you receive. The more you receive the more you have to be thankful for.
Life is like a great unfolding and our job to align ourselves in agreement with it. By doing so, we receive in grand measure.
Here’s a beautiful quote to sum up my feelings on the world we live in, our plane of existence:
That’s all anyone really needs to know with sure conviction that the world is limitless, abundant, and strangely accommodating. ~Pam Grout
For this I am truly thankful.
What’s next? A sneak peak at the next night revelation. The fifth statement I wrote that night said, “Walk in the light.”
