Files #001: Tinady “Prez” Andriamas
Tinady Andriamas, known as the Prez is one of the Pionnier of Malagasy skateboarding, and what make him stand over all is that he is still in the game till this day I am writting the archives. He had a board (a shark one) since 1994 but didn’t go far than just a“tic-tac” and Manuals. It is in 2003 that he got “serious” into it and learned the basic : Ollie. It is his friend Tahina Rason, an another pionnier, who taught him how to do it. Those guys went to the same School St.Antoine Ankadifotsy/Andravoahangy (a school who give born to a lot of skateboarder apparently ! Including myself and my first crew! It has some super spot !!! ) As most skateboarder, starting with those weak board similar to the wallmart one or worse than that.
He was a part of the original “Avs” crew (Avs is short for Avennue, Refers to “Avennue de L’indépendance” Analakely , the first official spot) which where Thibault, Jean Charles, Thierry (tri), Jimmy, Jerry, Tojo, Ludovic, Joyce and Tahina.
The first event he took part was a Demo for “Top Reseau” at Palais des Sports Mahamasina, in 2004. The same year he did his first DIY Flatbar.
In 2005, Rhinnah Rindra, a Malagasy skateboarder living abroad came back home, so Tinady was excited and went to 67ha to recieve him fresh out the plane , because Rhinnah was a “pro” , he is the first Malagasy skateboarder ever sponsorised. And they did an event At Jumbo Score Akorondrano that year. They also started to gap the stairs of Ankatso University. And started to “strap” decks when it snaps (refer to the article : Skate Maintenance : in the Malagasy tradition). They did a Rodobe ( a carnaval) from Andavamamba to Analakely on “Fêtes de la Musique” ( The music day). They were celebrating “Go Skateboarding Day” without knowing ! Because music day is actually 21th of June.
In 2006 , he took part of “Big Drop” the first contest with the K-ro Skateshop at Akorondrano (I was a baby born skateboarder and attend as skateboarder that year.).The same year he started to skate with Ranto that led him to skate at Andohalo and end up to be his home spot. Because he found two more skaters (among of the others who stopped) which is Niki (TiNik’s remember?) , and Garry (the Ravelomanatsoa brothers). They started to do mini skateboard video also. And did Demo with the brand STAR.
in 2007 , he slowed down a bit on skateboarding.
in 2008, the contest “Ride The Rue” by RTA Tv took part, in 2 edition, there was a Longest Ollie Contest and it was him and Rollin who were the last man standing. He Jummped over 2 ,60 meters but Rollin has beaten him that day.
in 2009, there was “Urban show” Demo at Palais des sports Mahamasina he took part. the same year him and Niki host the first “TiNiks” , where he battled with Rollin (again) in the final and he got beaten one more time. It is in that year also that the Skatepark at Masai has openned his door so there was a Contest where he placed 2nd behind Rollin (again and again…)
in 2010, he slowed down again on Skateboarding, due to Daily Job. And Pushed Tsiky Imanoela, his nephew, to start Skateboarding, in the streets of 67ha.
in 2011, he took a kind of break, so he kept skateboading just not to loose it, a new passion has striked. But still they organise TiNik’s 3 with the help of K-ro Skateshop that year.
in 2012, He hang out with all the “new school” (new generation) and get used to it. So that revive the flame and he is comming back strong in skateboarding again. “Big up to those guys ! I would mention any name because I would forget some but Big up for you ! you will recognize yourself !”. Made a deal with “Indomnie” so had made events with them: Spot Hero Contests. In the same line, The Project “Skalesa” started with , it was supposed to be an association for Malagasy skateboarders, so every step was already on the run but a major problem broke the project. So it became a facebook page , sharing news and everything around skateboard Malagasy in the native language. He took part on DC (south africa) Reel Edit 2012, when he saw a lot of the “new school” ( even some who didn’t have a good level … I’m talking about myself x] hahaha !)subbmited their video. He Ended up in the top 5 on that. He kept daily filming after that project.
in 2013, he was in the AKASKA video “Akama m skate” , a full length video made by the 67ha crew showcasing Malagasy skateboarding and which give born to a lot of project as Akama (which is the blog for skateboard news in Madagascar) and the SMEG association. He had a Road Trip for 2 days to Toamasina with Garry and met the skateboarders there. “ Big Up to Nampoina for welcoming us there”. There was also one of the major road trip ever : 3 days to Antsirabe and Manandona with a tight crew (Rollin, Rado kely, Garry, Kipa, Noom’s, Tri [Thierry], Francky [Courin]). They “streeted”, going by skateboard pushing from Manandona to Antsirabe in that same trip, which is 20km. Guillaume Grasse encouraged him to found an associasion, because a donation is comming from France and needed it to take care of it. So it was with some friends that he founded SMEG Association and Elected President (despite the fact he was not “hot” for the post but made it anyway for the love of the game and for experiences). From there is the nickname “Prez”. The new video Project, “SMEG Attitude” was that same year.
in 2014 , majority of the event hosted by him is in the name of SMEG Asso: Bona’nné Game of Skate Contest, Unity Contest (with Nokkio A.k.a Ida , the O.G !!! Tinady took the 3rd place on the contest in the same occasion) , Flatbar Contest at Antanimena, Masai skatepark rennovation and extention, Guide the “Redbull Team” in Antananarivo. He also had a personnal Road trip to Mahajanga. And helped to organise the “Joint Event” Demo with “RTA” Tv at Jumbo Score Akorondrano. The “Skate brigade” was after that and he was one of the Original members. He helped and suggested some idea to IMV for the design of the skatepark in Antanimena, and has an impact on its final design.
in 2015, the Man got Married ! Still, he get out the “Madagaskate” Video, made a short video streeting from Masai to Rta skatespot and took part of Skate brigade’s “Game of skate 1 and 2” . Went for a road trip with the SMEG Asso for sharing donation to the guys out there and Made the T-shirts for SMEG Asso’s 2nd Year of opperating.
And 2016 still working on it … “Skate for life”!
