7 Ways to Improve Your Website Homepage

If you’re an entrepreneur, hopefully you’ve created a website. If so, you should make sure your website has the following:

  1. No more than 6, or 7 max, buttons on the menu (not including submenu buttons).
  2. A clear CTA (call to action), in other words a button on main part of the website that’s easy to find.
  3. Proof of your successes — have you won any awards? Make sure those appear prominently on your homepage, not only for the users to see but also for Google to take note of as it scans your website.
  4. Make it clear who is your audience on your homepage. Your client shouldn’t be just anyone in the world, you need a niche to target so that you speak directly to them (if you need more help targeting your right audience, here’s an article on that).
  5. Include some images. Don’t make your website just text, it needs to have some photos as well.
  6. Make sure you have an H1 header at the top of the page (and only one on the page, on each of your website’s pages). H1 headers make Google aware of what your page’s main topic is, plus it makes the text larger.
  7. This last tip isn’t for the homepage only but to help your entire website. Make sure it’s searchable on Google by typing in “site:” then your website domain. Ex.: site:faithventuremedia.com. If not all your public pages are there, be sure to install Google Search Console on your website, put your site map in Google Search Console, and get Google to index your website (and new pages/blog posts whenever they’re created).
