Your Humanity Lives, World of Hyatt. But Why Aren’t You Showing It?

Hyatt’s Instagram posts are appearing too unrealistic in these times.

My parents have always taught me to speak up about a matter than to stay quiet and do nothing at all. There are many individuals around the world who can’t speak for themselves and it’s a privilege for us to have a voice. It was one of the main reasons I went to Nepal. I wanted to make an impact in people’s lives and use what I know to change certain norms. It’s also something which inspired me to apply to graduate school.

Now, here we are in 2022, where the people of Ukraine are fighting for their land. While people from all over the world are trying to find ways to help, many companies are no longer operating in Russia while some are finding ways to support the people of Ukraine.

So, I’ve definitely complained about a branch of Hyatt in the past: Park Hyatt’s UX and how boring their Instagram is. But, the company is pretty low-key about the way they’re handling business right now with their hotels in Ukraine and Russia. And it seems to be this way all for the sake of hospitality.

Hotels in Ukraine are not taking reservations. They mentioned recently that the company will provide accommodation for refugees across Europe and support to Hyatt collegues in need of basic necessities.

As for Russia, according to Bloomberg, Hyatt has suspended “new investments while determining the best way to support workers and guests at its Russia hotels.”

Although Hyatt seems to be taking reasonable measures in both countries and playing it safe, social media is something they need to improve on. With a crisis like Ukraine, people turn to social platforms to find out ways they can help or provide relief to refugees. However, Hyatt needs to read the room when it comes to their social posts. They continue to talk about relaxation and unplugging to recharge.

I understand brands have a timeline for when they post content and what they post about. Though, when the world is watching a crisis, I believe people want to see that these brands care and don’t live in a magical world where everything is fairies and butterflies. In this specific case, I’m glad to know Hyatt is doing something to help civilians but I feel other areas of their company can be improved.

In the meantime, we can do our part and help as much as we can. Here are two sources I trust and highly recommend donating to:

UNICEF — Donate to help children in Ukraine

ifaw — Donate to help the animals left behind in Ukraine

Until next time.

Love&Light Always — Pari
