Best Queer Things at NYCC 2018
by Ian Carlos Crawford
Last year I wrote: “Either I’m just becoming a cranky old (I am) or every year New York Comic Con gets more crowded. It’s super sweaty and nearly impossible to move around. But it’s still a lot of fun.”
To explain to you just how much more crowded it was: I got to the con on Saturday and immediately wanted to walk the whole floor — that’s always my plan of action my first day at the con. I troll for good deals on treats (aka action figures) and then asses which booth had the cheapest prices I saw for the stuff I really wanted.
Well. It took me an hour and a half to walk most of the floor. And then gave up and spent an hour eating a hot dog in the press lounge.
And that was day one for.
Day two for me, however, was the final day of NYCC (Sunday) and it felt incredibly too crowded. I sweat through my freakin’ backpack. I looked like a very distressed gay man ready for a mental breakdown — so I looked very much my true self. But I tried to snap photos of some of the best queer and genderbent cosplay and here are some of my favorites. Deadpools, sequined Wonder Woman, genderbent Overwatch characters, OH MY!
