The month of love is finally here once again, and it’s no less exciting in the tech world. In this newsletter we highlight some really cool disruptive technologies which could soon change the way we interact with technologies around us, as well as introduce our sensational Valentine’s promotion.
Disruptive technologies that once seemed revolutionary are quickly becoming an integral part of our lives and we have gradually reached the point where the lines between theory and reality are blurred.
Lesotho introduced the first commercially available 5G service last year with more roll outs expected throughout 2019. Speeds in excess of 1Gbps are expected to be achieved as the technology matures. 5G has the potential to solve a persistent barrier to digital growth, connectivity in remote areas. High-speed connectivity would allow Africa to re-imagine service delivery for government and business and take us closer to a fair digital society for citizens.
AI-powered technologies have been packaged into easy to use applications, greatly enhancing public access to these technologies. Anyone with enough development knowledge can theoretically build their own mini-Watson, not just major enterprises with full data science teams at their disposal. An excellent example of this is the use of chatbots to ensure quality customer service for companies like Mazzuma. Businesses in developing African countries will be able to leverage these tools to create their own AI-driven platforms and ecosystems to optimise work in the office and services to customers.
