We kicked off CEO Squads, a weekly virtual bootcamp this September for our young CEOs at Mighty. We picked a different entrepreneurial skill each week and invited some of the brightest minds in business to share their experience and learnings with Mighty CEOs. Read on for a recap of the first few sessions:

Week 1: Marketing

Ellen Bennett, Founder & CEO of Hedley & Bennett joined us to talk about Marketing, how to build up the confidence to talk to buyers, and her stories about learning from all of her the times she heard no. In the Squad breakout groups, CEO swapped tips on reaching out to buyers about their businesses and Mighty Coaches guided the conversations with this marketing worksheet. CEOs left the meeting committing to each other to reach out to a least one new buyer.

Week 2: Design & Branding

Danielle Kurtz, Director of Marketing and Creative at Kid Made Modern talked to CEOs about what it means to build a brand and how she thinks about making decisions that are consistent with her brand. CEOs had fun talking to each other in their Squads about what adjectives they’d use to describe their company’s “personality” and left ready to make changes to their website images and text to line up with this personality. Parents got a run down of resources to support their CEOs further like dinner table questions, a worksheet and activities.

Week 3: Merchandising

Amanda McClements, Founder of the DC area boutiques Salt & Sundry and the plant emporium Little Leaf, talked to us about how she picks the products for her stores. Squad CEOs shared their best selling products with each other and committed to adding one new product to their stores based on what they learned. We shared data on Mighty’s Best Sellers to set up CEOs for success.

Week 4: Impact & Finance

Ryan Devlin, co-founder of This Bar talked to CEOs about where the money goes when you buy one of his awesome delicious and super impactful snack bars. CEOs learn about the difference between revenue and profit and how to take this into account when setting goals for their business. Math in action!

Why Squads?

We’ve found that having a dedicated time on the calendar to work on your business is critical to kids’ success. Think of it like any activity you want to excel at — you won’t become a great soccer player without scheduled time to practice with your team each week. We see absolute magic in the combination of inspiration + collaboration with friends + exciting new challenges to motivate kids to learn and take action.

Here’s how you can join in:

Our Fall/ Winter CEO Squad session meets on Wednesdays at 2:30PST/ 5:30EST for 45 mins and runs through December 16th. You can join any time during the session. Please register here.
