And what a year it was. If nothing else, 2020 gave us plenty of excuses to stay in and indulge in our favourite mobile games while earning some free rewards along the way. Whether you joined our community last week or have been gaming with us since the start, here are the major highlights of all the big things that happened on Mistplay this year! (Plus, stick around until the end for a sneak peek of what you can expect in 2021!)
- We introduced Mistplay Status, which lets users earn gems on in-game purchases. Each Mistplay Status level comes with an increased rate of unit earning, extra bonuses when you enter contests, and VIP avatar frames. Since launching Mistplay Status in the summer of 2020, our users have already earned 3.5 million gems — and counting!
- In collaboration with our game developer partners, who determine the unique selection of games available to each user, we brought over 200 new games to Mistplay.
- Our community had a lot to say! Over 2.5 million chat messages were sent within our in-app chatrooms.
- We won…a few awards. We were ranked as the #4 Fastest Growing Company in Canada by the Globe and Mail and the #1 Fastest Growing Company in Quebec by L’actualité. Deloitte ranked Mistplay #4 in the Fast 50, which looks at Canadian companies, and #16 in the Fast 500, which includes companies across North America.
- We hid quite a few Mistcodes around our social media and community newsletter, giving our users surprise bonus units and exclusive avatars.
- Users in the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) participated in over 60 contests and mega-contests, competing for the chance to win prizes that included laptops, tens of thousands of units, and $400 gift cards!
- We published some behind-the-scenes looks at what the Mistplay team was up to, including a day in the life of a Mistplay developer, what we learned from managing a remote workforce, and how we launched our new game development studio amidst a global pandemic.
- The Mistplay community continued to grow: In August 2020, we reached 10 million downloads. Mistplay officially launched in Korea, our 14th supported country.
- We updated Mistplay over 20 times, fixing bugs, optimizing the app, and implementing countless other changes to ensure a better experience for our users.
- Oh, and we gave away over $11.5 million in free gift cards.
Throughout it all, we’ve remained inspired by our incredible community of users, who are always top of mind when it comes to improving Mistplay further. Looking ahead to 2021, we have some exciting features planned that we can’t wait to share with you. Expect many more fun ways to earn rewards, tons of new games, and, of course, Mistcodes!
