Mobius Roadmap Update May 2018
Dear Mobius Community,
Today we are excited to share with you our first roadmap update!
First a quick overview of what Mobius is doing:
1. Make global crypto-commerce a reality starting with the projected 2021 $6.3 Trillion (that is trillion with a T) app economy. We broadly tackle this problem through a three-pronged approach that makes cryptocurrency EASY to use for consumers, merchants, and developers.
2. Expand crypto-commerce beyond the app economy via our mobile wallet app and Universal Blockchain Payment Protocol (“Stripe for Blockchain”) that will be the safest, fastest, and easiest blockchain payment solution.
3. Create a global data marketplace for the projected 74 billion 2025 Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices via our “Nasdaq for Data” or Decentralized Data Marketplace and Proof of Stake Oracle Protocol (PSOP).
Without further ado here is the roadmap update!
The Roadmap
Q2 2018
1. Release the new 100% non-custodial Mobius DApp Store 2.0 with revamped UI/UX designed by a former Netflix designer (the beta demo on our testnet is already live [this is NOT the new UI/UX!] along with the Ruby SDK). Bad UI/UX is currently a critical bottleneck to mass crypto adoption. Many everyday consumers need and demand ease of use while also balancing robust security requirements, which is key for growth.
Note — imitation is the sincerest form of flattery: there are several blockchain companies brought to our attention that are copying our DApp Store by name and design on a superficial level but have absolutely no functionality, no developers, and no products — they’re either simple link directories at best and vaporware at worse.
2. Release additional DApp Store SDKs such as JavaScript and Unity (the most popular third-party game development platform in the world — 5B downloads + 2.4B unique devices!) to make it trivial for developers to integrate with the DApp Store and save 30% on in-app payment fees charged by Apple and Google.
3. Start hosting Mobius developer workshops around the world to educate developers about the Mobius ecosystem, products, and developer tools.
4. Announce Mobius Build Challenge #1 (MBC1) that will likely see the first winners announced in August (announcement coming soon — look for details).
5. Launch new Mobius bug bounty program to review our newly released open source products — details soon!
Q3 2018
1. Release the first version of the Mobius Mobile DApp Store and Wallet App that will feature QR code payment functionality (like WeChat). This starts phase two of making global crypto-commerce a reality by bringing cryptocurrency payments to brick and mortar businesses.
Imagine if any business or mobile app that you use everyday gave you the option to start easily and safely paying for goods and services with crypto. Imagine being a merchant in SF or an unbanked rural farmer with a cellphone that could accept blockchain payments more easily than cash or credit card. This is the future of our cashless society where there isn’t one bank or one currency that rules — decentralized cryptocurrency payments are key and Mobius will play a vital role in making it a reality.
Note: our off-chain token scaling and accounting support for MOBI is actively being developed and rigorously tested. The projected implementation time is scheduled by the end of the year via Stellar lightning support!
2. Beta test the voting method from our Universal Governance Protocol in MBC1 — more info coming soon! In short, the community will have a vote and only people with a certain number of MOBI will be able to vote. In the future we will open up the protocol and provide services to help other companies implement blockchain based governance.
3. Announce MBC1 winner(s).
4. Release the first version of our re-architected Universal Blockchain Payment Protocol that leverages the innovative Stellar Distributed Exchange (SDEX) to make accepting any cryptocurrency as payment extremely easy for any business.
5. Redesign and relaunch the website.
That’s it for now — expect a Q4 update in Q3.
Research Projects
In addition to the roadmap items we have an active R&D team working on the following things:
1. Building advanced off-chain layer 2 products/protocols on top of the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) similar to how Plasma builds on top of Ethereum and only periodically broadcasts commits to its “root blockchain” (Ethereum) (our “root blockchain”, Stellar, for token/asset transactions is up to ~100 times faster and ~10,000 times cheaper).
2. Universal Decentralized Governance Protocol — learn from the MBC1 vote beta test and research ways to allow big MOBI holders to secure the network/protocols and support layer 2 products/protocols mentioned in #1.
3. Decentralized Data Marketplace and Proof of Stake Oracle Protocol — tentative update in Q4.
4. A big barrier to merchants accepting cryptocurrency is volatility — we have our elite legal team working on a solution to this. SCP already provides a base layer of tech that will make this possible (more soon on this too) but the real innovation to a trusted and legal stablecoin will be global legal and regulatory compliance (blockchain is here to stay but it will be regulated as it gains mass adoption).
