Universal Governance Protocol Beta Test: Voting Method for Global Mobius DApp Store Hackathon

Mobius will beta test its Universal Governance Protocol with the upcoming community vote for the Global Mobius Hackathon Community Prize using the new Mobius mobile wallet app. Mobius community members with at least 5,000 MOBI can vote for the Community Prize winner.

Imagine this: If Wikipedia’s community was incentivized with tokenized tips for top contributors and editors selected by community vote, then it would have significantly improved and toppled Encarta much faster. More broadly, if existing online communities like Reddit or Twitter integrated tokens for decentralized governance and/or tips it can quickly reward value-added community members. Ultimately, these token-driven incentives may enhance efficiency, growth, and overall maintenance of the ecosystem. The other side of the coin is that the community can radically evolve in an entirely different direction than initially intended (i.e. Reddit morphing into something that looks and feels more like 4chan — effectively a blockchain governance based 51% troll attack). Part of our original vision was to develop a community to allow token holders to vote on proposals that help shape ecosystem development. In that vision, tokens may be used for staking rewards, voting, and much more. This is why we are excited to test blockchain-based governance with Mobius’ voting protocol.

As mentioned previously, the community vote will be held in-app as part of our mobile first strategy. This is why it’s necessary to download and use the Mobius Mobile Wallet app, which is available on iOS and Android.

There are four DApp Store candidates for the Global Mobius Hackathon Community Prize.

The award goes to the entry that receives the most votes through this beta test of the Universal Governance Protocol voting method. The Community Prize winner will receive 200,000 MOBI.

Voting for the Community Prize winner will start on October 13th, 2018 and end on October 21st, 2018 at 11:59:59pm PST.

In order to vote, go to the app and click the “hamburger” button on the upper left corner, then select “Global Hackathon Vote” from the slide menu. The latest build of app also allows users to contact support and copy your secret key.

Now select your choice from the four DApps featured and hit “Submit.” Remember in this beta test for the Universal Governance Protocol and you can only vote once. If you do not have 5,000 MOBI you will be unable to vote.

The beta test of the Universal Governance Protocol will record your vote on the Stellar blockchain by sending a 0.0000001 XLM payment with a memo field that contains a hash of your vote using a secret value that we’ll release along with the winner to allow public auditing of the vote (more precisely: tx_memo = sha256(“#{vote}#{voter_address}#{secret}”)).

The Community Prize vote winner will be announced on October 26th, 2018.

Other features under consideration for possible development include MOBI rewards (i.e. staking-based rewards, referrals rewards for things like successful KYC/AML certification).
