The goddess Yemaya guides you to surrender this week.

Yemaya is the Yoruba goddess of motherhood. In this tradition, deities are known as orishas. She is the mother of all other orishas. In fact, she’s the matriarchal head of the entire universe. Though she can sometimes be stern, she’s protective of her children and puts their interests first. She cares deeply about their well-being.

Yemaya is often depicted as a mermaid. Her colors are blue, white, pearl, and silver. Followers petition Yemaya for help with fertility issues, family, and parenting. While Yemaya is the most nurturing of the deities, she can also be fierce and protective.

Those who surrender to Yemaya find their troubles dissolve into the water.

The word “Surrender” can get a bad wrap when we consider it to mean giving up or waving the white flag. Instead, I invite you to think of Surrender as an opportunity to release control and co-create with the divine. It’s not about giving up at all. It’s an opportunity to call in the divine, expand your mindset, and be open to new possibilities.

As Einstein has said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.”
