HOW TO GROW ON MEDIUM
August ’22 vs July ’22 Analysis!
Earnings, Views, Subscribers.
Is F4F worth it? What do you think?
(10/01/2022) Disclaimer:
It’s not exactly F4F, but just following a lot of people.
I have made the test!
And although 2 months are not too informative, I was able to gain some insight from the last few weeks.
But first, let’s have a look at the résumé for August 2022.
Earnings August 2022
Not surprisingly, the top 3 earners last month were:
👉 Now I Feel Like Giving Up on Medium. $7.94
👉 Stripe Account Remains Closed After Exploit of Medium’s Tipping Feature $5.73
The story about the problem with Stripe has reached many readers and I wish I could report positive things by now. I have a credit card for verification, but the verification got stuck on the loading screen. Now I am again waiting for a response from Stripe support.
Stripe is still holding my July income and I don’t know yet if or when I will get the August money.
On a more positive note, here’s the background of the ‘About Me story. Almost 3,000 claps counts the post by now! Thank you so much for that!!! 💕
In total, my Medium earnings from the month of August are $44.06. I am absolutely happy with that! However, I hope to make it to the $100 Club by the end of the year — and hopefully with a working Stripe account!
August vs July — What has changed?
It was around the turn of the month when I was able to crack 1k followers after active F4F/F2F. Again: Thanks for the support!
Of all the members I followed, about 50% followed back. I think that’s a pretty good balance! But when I hit the 1k, I thought that was enough of a base for now. And so I changed my strategy in August and relied on organic followers.
Let’s Do Some Maths!
In July, I got about 1k followers through F4F, 10 of which were email subscribers.
- That is 1%.
In August, I got 300 organic followers, 5 of which were email subscribers.
- That’s about 1.67%.
1.67% doesn’t look like much. But the comparison proves that in proportion the number of email subscribers increased by 67%! And 67% is already a lot, which cannot be ignored easily.
And still, F4F is more worthwhile.
10 email subscribers versus 5 email subscribers is a simple calculation we can do in our heads: the absolute number of email subscribers in July was twice as high as in August!
It is quite possible that the values will shift again as the level of popularity increases. But as a new Medium author, the F4F method still seems to pay off.
I will definitely continue to monitor this and report again on the topic at the next turn of the month!
