Boston, MA — June 8, 2022 — Moonbeam, the top destination for multi-chain applications on Polkadot, has announced the integration with the Crab network and the availability of its native token, CRAB, on Moonriver. Once deposited on Moonriver as xcCRAB, the token can be used across Moonriver’s active DeFi ecosystem. The integration is made possible by XCM, the technology that enables parachains to pass data, messages, and assets between each other. This standard allows the movement of MOVR and any XC-20 assets minted on Moonriver to the Crab network, where privacy transfers are enabled.

Crab is the Kusama canary network of Darwinia, a cross-chain messaging infrastructure, which is focused on providing a reliable and programmable cross-chain platform for decentralized applications. Crab supports cross-chain interoperability and acts as an on-ramp to the Kusama ecosystem. They are working to give developers easy integration of cross-chain capabilities into their DApps, powered by their EVM-compatibility as well as an SDK. They also serve as a link to the metaverse as one of the locations in Evolutionland.

Moonriver’s integration with Crab brings access to the Evolutionland, an additional metaverse integrating NFT blind box GameFi mining and other new gameplay methods on the ecosystem.

This is the tenth cross-chain integration on Moonriver, a significant milestone that comes just five months after the initial introduction of interoperability functionality on Kusama. It was preceded by a Relay Chain connection (KSM) and channels with many of the top parachains today: Statemine (RMRK), Kintsugi (KINT), Karura (KAR, aUSD), Bifrost (BNC), Khala (PHA), Crust Shadow (CSM), Heiko (HKO), and Calamari (KMA). These connections showcase the rich interconnectedness that results from native interoperability built into the base layer, in this case through Kusama. In the near term, users can move and use these many assets across the extended ecosystem; in the long term, this will serve as the foundation for a broad spectrum of applications that tap into functionalities across chains.

Support for XC-20s is one of the many ways Moonriver makes it easier for developers to build multi-chain applications that are accessible and easy to use, but also reach users across the Kusama ecosystem. As the various parachains continue to connect, Moonriver projects benefit from the ability to interact with assets and messages cross-chain under the shared security of the Kusama Relay Chain.

About the Moonbeam Network

Moonbeam is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform on the Polkadot network that makes it easy to build natively interoperable applications. This Ethereum compatibility allows developers to deploy existing Solidity smart contracts and DApp frontends to Moonbeam with minimal changes. Like Moonriver, its sister parachain on Kusama, Moonbeam is expected to accumulate developer and user activity from the 100+ projects building DApps and protocols on the network. As a parachain on the Polkadot network, Moonbeam benefits from the shared security of the Polkadot Relay Chain and integrations with other chains that are connected to Polkadot.
