Broadway and showtunes and lyrics, oh my…I’d risk the crowds for my favorite things

Anything Hamilton: An American Musical Original Cast ranks #1 right now

Just about a year and 9 months into the pandemic and I’m super comfy living 95% of life indoors in my bubble. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I miss people. I really miss hugging, and life just is not the same without the 35-minute ride to church on Sundays. You do know that no one is keeping me from doing what was once normal, right? It’s me…all my doing…plus this lil’ airborne thing called coronavirus.

So, yep, all of my business is virtual (the last in-person client was the week of March 11, 2020). Church services are virtual (for me, by choice. The church is definitely open). I hang out with my friends…on video chats. And FaceTime has become the primary way that I see my grandbabies, ‘cept for the little cutie that lives here in the bubble. He’s one year old and wow, does he know how to pull a heart string already.

In a perfect world, every commodity and service that I want and need would be delivered by someone who has taken every precaution possible to avoid exposure to COVID-19. My reality, though, is far from that. Still, I am pretty cozy here in this bubble. The news of the spreading Omicron variant has caught my attention and I’m just like, ‘when is this gonna end?’ I’ve gotten 2 vaccine doses and a booster and honestly, I don’t mind living with a mask for the next two years if it’ll keep you and I safe.

The record should reflect that I have a reputation for community building and I can generally appreciate this push toward Medium Membership that we are in the throws of.

For God’s sakes, though, there is one thing that I want more than anything else right now. Keep in mind that I’ve turned down trips abroad and a number of life-and-business enhancing opportunities because of the threat of COVID. Yet and still (ha!, a coworker used to always say that [yet and still]…drove me insane when he did that like 30 times in an 8 hour shift), here I am wanting more than anything to get back to live Broadway shows and Leslie Odom, Jr concerts. Disney+, it’s nothing against you. It’s just that there’s nothing like the real thing, baby. At this point, my Hamilton soundtrack CD (don’t judge me, I like CDs still) is scratched from over-usage. My Spotify and Amazon Music playlists are 99% anything Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Anthony Ramos. There is this deep urge to get to a music hall, theatre, venue and binge on live Broadway shows and concerts. The idea alone is like better than food right now.

I’ve tried being angry that this pandemic isn’t improving. It turns out that every minute I’m angry is like stealing one minute of joy from myself. Clearly, doing my part to avoid COVID-19 isn’t making it go away. So, what’s a showtunes fanatic to do, but pop over to leslieodomjr.com and hope and pray for a Michigan show…and what do you know, here it goes:

Leslie Odom, Jr. December 5, 2021 performance schedule

‘I have the honor to be your obedient servant, A. Burr.’

Not really an MSU fan, but I’ll show up for this…2 masks and all.

Will I find you there too?
