About
my AFRICA…
For the Africa they never showed us.
Note from the editor

myAfrica is a blog forum started at Duke University by members of the undergraduate DukeAFRICA organization. It is a space to discuss Africa in its many different forms, and in the many different intersectional spaces that the continent spans across in our world. We hope that this will be a forum for promoting dialogue and raising awareness about the issues that surround our continent and its diasporas, but also to celebrate Africa’s diverse cultures. We will individualize that which has become generalized. We dream of the day that an endless mass of emaciated black faces become individual people with visions and emotions and identities, and that the reduction of a continent into a homogeneous sociocultural context becomes a recognition of unique and distinctive cultural spheres that span across 54 diverse countries. myAFRICA is a space for articles, a space for knowledge, for stories that make us laugh and tragedies that make us cry. For journalists and artists, for musicians and for scientists. It’s to teach and to learn from all the unique voices that are Africa. This is the Africa that you will never see.
