Brief recap: On the evening of December 16 2021, Super Typhoon Rai made landfall in the Philippines, devastating parts of the country causing over $800 Million in damage, killing over 400 and leaving many missing. The Zapper community have raised funds to support the victims!

Fast forward to today: The community fundraising event has been an overwhelming success, with the Season 2 NFT selling out, combined with incredibly generous donations from Marc and the Zapper Mobile team to the tune of $1400 USD!

Loving volunteers hard at work

On January 10th, the first 100 relief packages were delivered to local residents in the east of Mandaue City Cebu, most of whom had been left with no electricity or drinking water, and no support from the local government. The packages contained much needed food; rice, noodles, and sardines, as well as corned beef, beefloaf, plus coffee and biscuits.

The next round of distribution took place on Friday 21st, in which 200 packages were handed out to survivors taking shelter temporarily in a local primary school. Some local police officers and a soldier were kind enough to extend their help with the distribution, the relief effort is expected to be officially acknowledged by the police within the coming days.

Locals reported being very grateful for the support
Many thanks to local police for their assistance!

Many of the victims supported have either low or no income, and are known locally as ‘Suki’, the very poor. It is estimated that 1.5 Million houses have been damaged or destroyed, and 9 Million people have been seriously affected by the typhoon. The funds raised will continue to bring food to those that need it urgently. The relief effort is ongoing and more packages will continue to be distributed!

Thanks again to everyone involved. I will close with the words of local man Pepito V.

“Daghang Salamat sa Zapper Community sa grasyang nadawat. Dako na kaayu ni nga tabang para sa among pamiliya.”

Translated: “Thank you so much Zapper Community for the blessings received. It is a really big help for my family.”

Until next time! 💜💜💜⚡⚡⚡
