As we mentioned in our previous post, the Nabr standard is anything but standard. Today, you can see how. We’ve just launched the beta version of our Design Studio, a first-of-its-kind online e-commerce experience where future Nabr residents can explore designs and features — and reserve a home at our first development, SoFA One, in the heart of San Jose’s arts district. All consumers start with the Nabr Design as a baseline.

In this post, I want to speak to the underlying ethos of the Nabr Design, explain what’s included, and walk you through some of the optional Nabr-curated features I’m most excited about launching.

Nabr’s Design Ethos

First, a bit about me: I have spent 20 years crafting high-end interiors in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Each project is bespoke, but from experience I have developed a universal design philosophy: homes should be versatile, flexible, and functional — yet always warm, calming, and inviting.

I applied this experience to the Nabr Design, attempting to blend high design with California casual. Below, you can see an example of a two-bedroom home.

What’s included in the Nabr Design?

The home is “staged” with features and furniture that help you visualize what’s possible in the space. But it’s important that you understand what’s included in a Nabr home when you begin your design process, before any features are added. The image below shows an overview.

Diagram of a Nabr home that includes: Wooden cabinets with a light oak finish; high-quality appliances including an induction cooktop and a dishwasher and fridge with door panels that match cabinetry; eight-foot-long kitchen island with integrated microwave and waterfall countertop; Wide-plank, light oak flooring; neutral-toned, large format tiles in the bathrooms; Eight-foot-tall bedroom closet; coat closet by entryway; stacked washer and dryer in utility closet.

Right now in the Design Studio, you can also “favorite” our premium Design Partner Packages, packages of materials, fixtures, and finishes curated by renowned design firms. We have packages from Bjarke Ingels Group and Katty Schiebeck Studio coming soon — and more to follow!

The Feature Collection

Next, you’ll get to select features. All features have either been custom-designed by our team or (if they’re appliances or fixtures) have been sourced from world-class brands that we have personally vetted for quality and sustainability.

Our feature collection is comprised of 19 items, across five categories: High Design, Outdoor Living, Effortless Entertaining, Health and Wellness, and Everyday Luxuries. Below are three of my favorites.

Living Room Feature Wall—This floor-to-ceiling feature wall is both a dramatic statement piece and a completely customizable, versatile piece of furniture that lets you adjust shelving to display what matters to you — your TV, family photographs, art, and/or books. You can also opt to include a workspace module, which includes a desk with drawer, or a cocktail/coffee bar module with stone countertop, perfect for informal dining and entertaining. Plus, my team and I have already done the work to make sure the feature wall matches your home’s material palette and fits its dimensions perfectly.

Terrace Landscaping—Custom-designed to seamlessly match your terrace’s dimensions and material palette, these self-watering planters are ready with greenery on move-in. You can choose the planting package that suits your lifestyle: herbal, for the home cook or parent of curious kids, California native, an easy-maintenance offering of drought-tolerant plants, or lush, for a more verdant, private terrace experience. You can monitor water use via your Nabr app, too.

Steam shower and heated bathroom floors—Imagine coming home from a long day at work or an intense workout and having your own personal spa-quality wet sauna in your bathroom. We extend your shower doors to full-height glass, creating a truly enclosed at-home steam room, and then install a touch-controlled steam generator. For an even more luxurious experience, select the heated bathroom floors as a feature, and step out of the sauna to toasty warm tiles.

What’s next?

Check out our beta Design Studio for a full overview of the current features collection. We are going to continue to launch new offerings — both that we design and that we source from brand partners around the world. And through the Nabr app, residents will be able to continue to order new features to their home, even after move-in. If you have a feature you’d like to see, send us a note! We’re excited to hear your ideas.
