2019 — Q1W4 — Magnanimity

The virtue of being great of mind and heart.

Magnanimity. I love this word. It summarizes the very purpose of it all. No matter whether it is about marriage, business relationships or relationship to work. It describes the ultimate purpose of the journey.

It originates from the Latin words “Magnus” and “Animus” and means a great soul. It suggests a lofty and courageous spirit, nobility of feeling and generosity of mind.

I thought about it again as I read an article by Brianna West for Medium. According to her:

“Marriage is not meant to make you happy. It’s meant to make you conscious.”

“The real work is not about finding the right person. It’s about becoming the right person.”

This is true for any other relationships as well as our relationship to work and life in general. Everyone we meet on our journey is there to provide us with an opportunity. An opportunity to become more conscious of who we are. An opportunity to serve.

That is especially true for long-term partnerships. We are often attracted by our opposites and that is for a reason. Our opposites provide us with the greatest opportunity to grow. Here is an article in which I reflect on that.

Here is also Brianna Wiest’s full article for Medium.

And finally, here is my rephrase of Brianna’s statement:

The real work is not about finding the right partner, work or life opportunity. It’s about becoming the right person. A magnanimous person.
