“Telecom companies are also unlikely to see significant growth in the future without AI and data.”

Carriers are focusing on “non-telecom” businesses. It’s because their wireless business was stagnating and they need a way to rethink their competitiveness. Carriers still are well-equipped to transform into digital enterprises, thanks to the skills they’ve developed building their networks. They have a huge amount of customer data due to the nature of their business, and they have unlimited scalability since they have “real consumer data.”

The key to building a reliable data pipeline is to secure cloud-based communication technologies (in the cloud, and ultimately in the data center). Therefore, it’s a predictable step for carriers to build their technologies through strategic partnerships with cloud companies.

SEA carriers have been particularly aggressive. The Southeast Asian cloud market is the fastest growing region in the world, with a digital economy growth rate of 20% in 2022, and cloud market demand growth of over 30%. As a result, competition to take the lead and create a standard in the SEA market is intensifying.

Today we’d like to introduce two SEA carriers that are driving cloud transformation to deliver smarter services to their customers.

⭐️ StarHub partners with NAVER Cloud

As a system eco-player that provides a digital experience, StarHub aims to simplify customers’ daily activities and business by providing a super app digital platform that allows users to access various digital services. For example, they are working on the Cloud Infinity Program with NAVER Cloud.

The future envisioned with NAVER Cloud?

1. Leverage cloud infrastructure technology. NAVER has experience with building private 5G within its own robot-friendly building “1784.” Based on this experience, we will jointly develop platforms and solutions by combining StarHub’s 5G technology and NAVER Cloud’s cloud technology, and differentiate cloud computing-based 5G network services through ultra-low latency multi-access technology.

2. Scale services while protecting customer data sovereignty. NAVER Cloud provides “Sovereign Cloud” based on local data centers, tailored to each country’s government/industry regulations. When StarHub’s 5G communication technology meets NAVER Cloud’s Sovereign Cloud, customers can gain sovereignty over their data usage, complying with PDAP while expanding their business by implementing various services enabled by the public cloud.

⭐️ Indonesia Telkom to take a leap forward into a new future with NAVER Cloud

Telkom Data Ekosistem, a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia, which is Indonesia’s national carrier, is building digital economy infrastructure in Indonesia and laying the groundwork for global expansion. In this regard, Telkom Data Ekosistem has signed a MOU with NAVER Cloud, and intends to build a strong digital infrastructure consisting of digital services, global standard data centers, and secure networks.

The future envisioned with NAVER Cloud?

1. Quickly deliver telecom cloud solutions. NAVER Cloud has long provided various types of clouds that carriers need, including Neurocloud, public cloud, and edge cloud. By utilizing NAVER Cloud’s technologies for Telkom’s Indonesian telecommunications infrastructure, we’re expecting to see compressed growth in Indonesia, where 5G is beginning to be introduced full-scale.

2. Advance existing services with the cloud environment and secure scalability for a variety of businesses and services. In addition to advancing Telkom’s legacy services by migrating them to the cloud environment, the cloud environment enables rapid business growth through diverse and agile service development.

Digital transformation isn’t just a technology strategy; it’s a strategy to leverage technology to enable new business models, new products and services, and new strategies — and drive business growth. Digital transformation not only improves operational efficiency, but also enables flexible response to external changes and reduces the time, cost, and effort required to make business decisions.

If you’re reading this article and dreaming of becoming a “digital platform company” that goes beyond the telecommunications business and provides cloud and content, we invite you to join NAVER Cloud!
