Thanks to everyone who participated in Round 5, Stage two of our mining competition.

We typically release a new testnet version approximately every two weeks (for more detail please check GitHub Release). This 5th and final round of our mining competition has three stages, each tied to a release, with no break during the round.

  • Stage One started Oct 5th, and all the block rewards (base rewards) before Oct 19th 6:00 UTC will be counted.
  • Stage Two started Oct 19th 6:00 UTC, and all the block rewards (base rewards) before Nov 2nd 6:00 UTC will be counted.

Stage Three will start Nov 2nd 6:00 UTC and will require that you download ckb v0.24.0. Also, CKB Explorer will need to upgrade and will be ready about two hours after the competition starts.

The Details

Total Reward:18,000,000 CKB (mainnet tokens)
Version: v0.24.0
Start: 2019.11.2 6:00 (UTC) UNIX Timestamp:1572674400
End:2019.11.16 (There is no specific time, and it is expected that Stage Three will end at the last Block of the 90th Epoch).

How to Participate

We will release v0.24.0 on GitHub one hour before the competition(i.e. 5:00 UTC), all participants can download the latest release version. You can ONLY participate in the mining competition using the latest release version.

At 6:00 (UTC) we will announce more detail about how to generate the genesis block (on GitHub). We will also release ckb v0.24.0 with the right genesis block.

Nervos CKB has the support of several mining pools and mining OS. Check here for the list. Also you can check our docs and miners info on Github.

Reward Rules

  • The final result will count all the main chain block during the competition period. Our consensus design uses a two-step confirmation, thus block rewards will have several blocks delay. We will count all the main chain blocks rewards, no need to consider the delay.
  • In CKB, the block reward contains four parts. To guarantee the fairness, only base reward will be calculated during the competition. In our consensus design, there are four parts of block reward: base reward, secondary rewards, commit rewards and proposal rewards. As secondary rewards are related to state occupation, and commit and proposal rewards are related to transaction, those rewards could be manipulated. Thus transactions, secondary rewards, commit rewards and proposal reward will not be counted in competition. ONLY base rewards will contribute to competition. For more detail you can check our consensus RFC.
  • Addresses must have at least 1000 testnet base reward tokens to receive mainnet tokens as a reward. The native token CKByte represents state storage space on the Common Knowledge Base blockchain. A cell is the basic data structure in the blockchain, and you can put any arbitrary data in a cell. It requires 60 CKBytes to create a cell, thus one must have more than 60 CKB mainnet tokens as reward, or we can not send the reward.
  • CKB token rewards will be sent to the corresponding address in the genesis block when mainnet launches (no lockup). Addresses for the same private key might be different on testnet and on mainnet due to a difference in algorithm. Participants only need to hold on to their private key to be able to claim rewards, so please keep it safe. Once mainnet launches, you can import your private key to the CKB wallet and claim the reward.
  • Due to uncertainties during our testnet, the final result will be calculated according to the proportion of base rewards each address mined. For example, during the competition, if there are a total of 10M tokens as a base reward — Alice’s address receives 1M tokens and can also receive 1/10 of the total mainnet token rewards.
  • During the competition, you can check CKB Explorer for information like difficulty, transactions, hash rate, balance, etc. Check CKB-Mine-Lord website, created by a community member, to show the rank of all the addresses or get your real-time rank. (here is the code of this website for reference). CKB explorer will be ready two hours after the competition begins.
  • After the competition, we will organize the data and update the results on our site. The results are subject to the final data published on our website.

Things to Note

  • This is the last stage of final testnet mining competition. Participation in this event means that you have read and understood the competition terms.
  • In the previous round, some rewards were distributed to null address, which may be caused by entering the wrong Lock Args. So please double check when you are configuring.
  • CKB token rewards will be sent to the corresponding address when mainnet launches. Participants need to hold on to their private key to be able to claim rewards.

Addresses for the same private key may be different on testnet and on mainnet due to a difference in algorithm. Please keep your privkey safe so you can receive your mainnet rewards.
