In this course, we will investigate the concepts and controversies around data, information, and knowledge from different perspectives. We will also learn how to collect, manipulate, and interpret data in a rigorous way to support intellectually sound arguments. My goal for this class is to understand what is involved in carrying out a research project, and to be able to evaluate claims made by academics, experts, politicians, advertisers, etc. by judging the quality of the evidence provided by the research on which they base their arguments.
