Patience is key
Being run down with a bug is surprisingly insightful. With all this extra time it’s allowed me to slow down and focus on the core ideas that are important. We continue our weekly dose of “Monday Morsels” with topics that matter. I hope that this helps in developing your skills for business & performance as an individual.
Patience is key —
My greatest fault is my impatience, like most I want everything now. As Gary Vaynerchuk highlights, patience is so important to respecting what’s involved in building a business. You need to have the mentality that if your plan & execution is right, you need to just keep showing up and working hard. On a long enough timeline, probability says you’re likely to succeed because most give up. Now this is incredibly hard when you’re constantly told time is THE most valuable asset, it makes you second guess how you spend your time. Should you truly love what you’re doing, then wasting time isn’t even an issue — because the grind makes you happy.
You don’t need Eldorado to build a business —
For those who are involved in the tech community, there is a zeitgeist that Silicon Valley is Eldorado. I’ve always thought this wasn’t the case. There are numerous reasons why you don’t need to be in the valley, but a 15% CAGR increase in wages is just one. You don’t require being in one place to operate a business.
Japan, “is beautiful!!” —
Heading to Japan in September/October, please feel free to recommend rural towns I need to stop by (I want to get out of the majors like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto). Came across this very funny video, many lols were had.
Bots are the new black —
If you’re involved in the tech community you’ve no doubt seen the talk of chatbots as the next platform in tech. Some think that better apps will replace apps, not bots. Others have shown the underlying economic benefits of bots, displaying a strong argument for. It’s important to understand the strategic moats of the internet players before making major investments in new platforms. Knowing which “device” will be used is key to understanding the next big platform. Text chat bots are great for simple tasks, but I believe that voice AI will better handle nuance in complex & complicated tasks.
Transmission loss & reading less —
I don’t have a TV on purpose, as I just read. This article describing that reading less is more, was very timely after reading another on transmission loss. Even without a TV you don’t realise how consuming your habits of learning can become. Sometimes a split between perspective & consumption is very important to your own learning. The key then when learning something new, is to apply it regularly.
If you’re enjoying Monday Morsels please forward this to a friend and suggest they sign up for the weekly dose!
Thanks for reading! Have an awesome week.
