Dear Colleagues,

I write to you in the midst of the ongoing crisis that the world is witnessing due to the COVID pandemic. It has been a trying period for us and continues to be one, yet we have manged to keep our spirits high and make progress as we work together as a team. I am sure that each one of us have in the last few weeks witnessed this indomitable spirit, unique to The New Indian Express Group; because of which we have managed to publish and distribute our newspapers each day without fail, whatever be the odds.

As we are all aware, the economy is posing challenges for everyone and our organisation is no exception. We need to be financially responsible and proactive to the disruption caused by this pandemic. To that end, we have undertaken several measures which would help us in being financially prudent and being proactive to the changing needs and redefining our business in this critical hour. In a spirit that in times of crisis we share the pain –with each one of us making sacrifices with the long term goal to sustain our business and the overall health of our organisation, we will implement a pay cut effective from 16.5.2020. The pay cuts will be between 10%-30% and with our Chairman opting for a 50% cut. However, please know that the choice we opted was one that will have the least impact on our employees overall with many of them being insulated as you can see from the below table:

RANGE (per month)
PAY CUT-%
Upto Rs.40K
NIL
Rs.40K to Rs.75 K
10%
Rs.75K to Rs. 1 Lakh
15%
Rs.1 Lakh to Rs. 1.50 Lakh
20%
Rs.1.50 Lakh to Rs. 2 Lakh
25%
Above 2 Lakhs
30%

We have also decided to implement a new work schedule whereby all Saturdays will be full working days for all staff with weekly one day off for journalist.
We believe the outcome from these measures will better position our company to face these challenging times as we emerge stronger and better equipped to face the new world. We appreciate all of your hard work, and we know we will have your support as we all strive for continued business success.

Warm regards,
