The NFTY News tracks the ever-evolving narrative of how the mainstream will enter crypto through user applications. In each edition I explore non-fungible tokens, dApps, and the ecosystem affecting consumer crypto applications.

The 0x/CoinList & ETHDenver Hackathons are a wrap, and we’ve seen some quality projects emerge. This week’s issue will briefly recap some of the best projects from the week and discuss some of the experiments done at ETHDenver 🐃.

New ways to onboard users into crypto

Tokenary — winner of the CoinList & 0x Hackathon

Tokenary is wallet for crypto & cryptocollectibles. For the 0x hackathon, they implemented a feature allowing users to exchange NFTs over WiFi & Bluetooth, perfect for meetups. This can now open up some new possibilities:

  • Auction off NFTs using OpenSea to a crowd, similarly to what Ethereal did in 2018.
  • Event Giveaways — massTransfer NFTs to any user in the audience of a crowd. Remember the MLBCrypto giveaway? The process can be streamlined using this method.

Alice

A portal into the world of dApps. Like Instadapp, but for gaming collectibles. Using Alice’s SDK, developers can cut down on development time and focus on building better user interfaces.

Portis

Portis is a web3 JS-injected wallet that’s compatible with mobile browsers. Users sign in with an account name & password and buy ETH with USD using Wyre with a $25 limit. Portis is currently supporting Ethereum & other sidechains like RSK, POA, & xDAI.

Fortmatic

Similar to Bitski, Fortmatic is an SDK for dApp developers to build dApps with just a few lines of code. Only a phone number is needed for onboarding. While Fortmatic is one of the faster way for developers to embed Web3 for users, it trades off security.

UniversalLoginSDK

UniversalLogin uses personal mulisig, meta transactions, and a universal login to onboard users into their dApp in minutes.

All of these solutions are essentially solving the same thing — getting end users “into crypto” as painlessly as possible without sacrificing security.

Pixura launches NFT Marketplace

Pixura has recently launched the Pixura platform, enabling anyone to create a a 0x-integrated NFT marketplace. Pixura’s Social Metrics for NFTs also gives metrics to traders to properly evaluate tokens. Here are some things you can do with Pixura:

  • Achievements & badges, perfect for hackathon trophies using massTransfer
  • Community Contests — get data on which users are using the non-fungible tokens after an airdrop, measuring LTV for a user.
  • Event ticketing — create your own white-labeled marketplace for event tickets. Create a prediction market for the number of tickets sold for the event.

ETHDenver Recap

Here were the more interesting experiments from ETHDenver:

Gitcoin Scavenger Hunt

Attendees need to collect a dozen Kudos from sponsors at ETHDenver. Kudos’ are physical & digital — users can place them on their water bottle & store them in their Status Wallet. If you gather all the Kudos, you earn a Keep Key from ShapeShift.

OpenSea Swag Store via Portis

If users redeemed their Swag Coin from a paper QR code in their Portis Wallet, they were able to buy ETHDenver Swag through OpenSea.

Proof-of-Attendance

CryptoTickets is a contract to ensure you can’t reuse an ERC721 ticket once it’s activated. What if you could create derivatives of these event tickets to prove you went the event? Building up a book of these non-fungible tokens can help organizers better evaluate the LTV of an attendee.

Events this week

NFT.NYC

I’ll be speaking this week at NFT.NYC with Ian Lapham about the role of intrinsic motivations within non-fungible tokens & blockchain gaming. If you’re in NYC, grab a ticket from OpenSea and stop by!

CryptoKitties Meetup in NYC on Feb 21

I’ll be speaking at the CryptoKitties meet up on Feb 21 talking about some of the mishaps from the ecosystem in 2018. If you’re interested in attending, you can grab a ticket here.

If you are working on creative use cases, or working on trying to get more people into crypto and reaching end users using non-fungible tokens, I would love to talk about how I can help. Reach out to me on twitter @flynnjamm, my DMs are always open.
