Welcome to the Nimiq Community Update! This a community contributed compendium write-up on what Team Nimiq & the Nimiq community have been developing in the ecosystem. The community update will always remain open source & community driven, if you’d like to write for the update be sure to contact us.

What is Nimiq?

Nimiq is a browser-based Blockchain designed for simplicity. Nimiq’s reason for existence is to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to the mainstream. To achieve that purpose Nimiq has been built from the ground up to address and break the barriers to entry that inhibit the mainstream adoption of blockchain technologies. Nimiq is encompassed by a strong philanthropic mindset, it will always remain open-source and community-driven.

Open-source: denoting software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.

Nimiq rust-implementation

• Nimiq’s rust implementation has entered testing phase, with the initial rust seed nodes launched to mainnet, follow the progress here.

Nimiq Community Fund 2

• Following the establishment of the fund in 2018, the second fund meeting reviews proposals from Nimex, ShortNIM, Nimiq Wallet Manager, PoW Captcha, GetNIM & Nimlotto. An updated list of proposals can be found here.

TicoBlockchain Conference

• Held on February 2nd, the TicoBlockchain conference is Costa Rica’s first major blockchain conference. Team Nimiq had a number of speakers alongside a sponsorship of the event as a whole.

Nimiq (Testnet) Woocommerce plugin

• This is a plugin for Wordpress to handle Nimiq (NIM) payments through Woocommerce.

Survey of Consensus Protocols and Scalability Solutions

• “This survey paper is the basis for our research on Nimiq 2.0.”

Crypto Adoption Playbook

• Discussing the potential of cryptocurrency adoption in real-world communities, the ‘Crypto Adoption Playbook’ is a wide-ranging proposal focused on addressing the issues with adoption and the possible methodologies for executing a study.

ImageWallet & AgoraBank

• Sharing similar UI & UX philosophies, Nimiq & Agora Trade come together to collaborate in integrating Agora’s imagewallet.io & a direct fiat-to-crypto on-ramp. *Watch this space ;)

Community updates

• Official Nimiq Forum: The community now has an official Nimiq forum! Resources, community updates, Q&A’s and more will be available to users through the forum, so be sure to sign-up!
• GPU mining: Developers within the community have open-sourced a number of GPU miners with the first official release of a GPU miner by Sushipool on 18/01/2019.
• Mining hardware statistics: A comprehensive google-spreadsheet on community projects & user submitted mining hardware stats.
• Twitter tip-bot: Developed by rraallvv, the bot enables users to send & receive twitter tips directly through Twitter.
• Nimfee.info: Developed by a member of the Team, it is a non-profit Nimiq fee monitor.
