The Nimiq Discord Update — Week 8
Welcome to the Nimiq Discord Update! This a community contributed weekly write-up on what Team Nimiq have been posting in the official Nimiq discord channel alongside community led projects and content being created for Nimiq.
Official Nimiq x Ledger integration
The big news for Week 8 of mainnet is the announcement that Ledger has officially integrated Nimiq onto to the Ledger Nano S. Announcing the support through the official Ledger Twitter page, Nimiq is one of the few projects to go from mainnet release to Ledger integration within two months. Congratulations to Team Nimiq & particularly Jeff for working hard on the Ledger integration efforts.
Marketing (Plans, Strategy & Design)
Following Week 7’s post by Team Nimiq of “Nimiq: Past, Present & Future”, Week 8 continues the blog post series outlining the marketing plans for Nimiq moving forward. Beyond the immediate focus of increased exchange listing, the team aims to establish:
- [A] Nimiq Web Shop: get Nimiq swag for NIM with a NIM-based checkout system. The first online shop showcase for the Nimiq Ecosystem!
- Nimiq and Ledger: Ledger app and branded Nano Ledger S promotion
- Content Marketing: broadened content on multiple channels
- Nimiq Safe Usability: focus on onboarding and social features
- Nimiq Outreach: research communities and conferences
As part of broadening the outreach of Nimiq, the team is looking to sponsor the development of ‘Crypto-educational’ web applications to open access to new participants of the Nimiq ecosystem. Projects like ‘Nimipet’ are examples of community developed applications that align to the long term vision of the project and it is hoped that more details regarding this sponsorship will be revealed soon.
Exchanges (Listing & Discussion)
[No change] Mentioned in last weeks’ edition, Nimiq has officially listed on ‘Tradesatoshi’ as the first exchange to integrate NIM, there have been issues with regards to withdrawals so caution is advised.
Tradesatoshi remains as the only publicly available exchange with Nimiq listed, it is important to note that Tradesatoshi wasn’t an officially endorsed exchange initially and had approached the team for integration (reported in Week 4 of the NDU) first rather than Team Nimiq approaching them for a listing. Whilst the team can’t disclose the current listing discussions with the community due to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), Nimiq is set to be listed on the 9th & 58th exchange on the 24 Hour volume ranking on CMC (13.06.18).
Nimex.app , a private community exchange, has also seen an uptick in volume in Nimiq exchanged between users with a healthy number of transactions taking place. Nimex.app remains invite only, however, if you go to their official discord they tend to send out invites quite frequently.
Mining (Pools & Developments)
The global hashrate for Nimiq has seen a general downtrend since the peak of 1.07 GH/s on the 8th June to a low of 582.49 MH/s on the 13th June. The network is skewed toward centralisation with Skypool and Beeppool varying between <40% dominance of the network. As reported in last week’s edition of the NDU, there is discussion being undertaken by the pool owners of Skypool and Beeppool as to a solution to centralisation.

Trading & Price (Transaction volume & Capitalisation)
The orderbook for TradeSatoshi has put the price of NIM at $0.0075 to $0.01 (82~ satoshis) with fluctuations throughout the day due to the low volume (9 BTC up from 5 BTC 1 week ago). Nimiq transaction volume has seen an increase from the previous week following a second batch of activation.
Following the all time high for the global hashrate the break-even for miners sits at $0.007~.
The entire cryptocurrency market is currently experiencing a bear market with the total market capitalisation at $267,076,546,959 down from $345,188,438,626 1 week ago according to CoinMarketCap.
Community (App development & Announcements)

- Nimiq electron wallet, an electron based nimiq wallet has been created by community member hanpama.
