Last week we covered in simple terms what Capture App does and why the photos taken, coined as ‘Capture’, are “one of a kind”. For our third Capture App Blog Post installment, we will be diving deeper into the topic: What is Capture?

Regular Photos

Regular photos are images taken with our mobile cameras or digital cameras. They are easily created and have great reach due to ease of sharing as well as the vast number of media platforms available to users. This benefit comes with the drawback of having no way to tell whether or not the photo is the original or any other information because it lacks any features to distinguish it among the many copies. As a result, regular photos have lost their value, ownership and the ability to capture a moment in time.

Capture

Photos taken with Capture App, coined as ‘Captures’, are photos that have their value, ownership and context preserved through the use of space time tracking, associated certificate of authenticity and blockchain traceability/immutability. This is significant because with ‘Captures’ it is possible to trace and verify information related to photos. This means photo creators can easily claim ownership and misused photos can be exposed for their fraudulent nature.

Further Improvements to Capture

To ensure the authenticity of photos created with Capture App we will be looking to implement Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), a standard for embedding metadata into media assets such as photos. With CAI, when a ‘Capture’ is created, not only is a photo created, but a digital information containing including essential information such as an image birth information (time, location) at the source, blockchain record, as well as ownership. This means that even in the event of online sharing and transfer of hands, the photos information will remain with the photo.
