1 Simple Way We Boosted Team Morale
And it’s not Casual Friday.
Next week my team and I are heading to Las Vegas to compete in Tech Cocktail Celebrate, which is a competition for startups to be voted ‘Nation’s Hottest Startup’ by a panel of respected judges. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited.
Since May of this year, Brandisty has been in development working to stop brand pong. Things have been going great and exceedingly fast for development purposes. We’re officially in revenue.
Despite our speed and initial success, the seemingly never ending product development can become laborious and boring.
I wanted to express the importance of boosting team morale by having things too look forward to. Something on the calendar that your team can get excited about. Something that isn’t the usual, mundane tuesday.
The reason being is, startup life can get monotonous. You’re generally in a team under 8 employees, so regular connection with the outside world becomes scarce. If someone is out of the office that day, you might go the whole day without even speaking to someone. Sometimes, it wears on us.
As exciting as the thought of an official launch day is, I don’t know anyone that hasn’t had to push that date back at least 3 times. If the light at the end of the tunnel is constantly being pushed back further and further, you need something along that the team can celebrate.
In no way am I complaining, being involved in a startup takes relentless determination, but it can be extremely beneficial to the overall productivity of your team to schedule something that is still under the company umbrella, but a little more effective than showing up with donuts.
For us, boosting team morale came in the form of an event. Heading out to Las Vegas to compete with tons of other great startups has given us a sudden boost of excitement. Its a slightly different environment around here at the office and I couldn’t be more pumped to dominate next week (50 LinkedIn connections or bust).
Are we going to win Tech Cocktail Celebrate? I sure as hell hope so. What happens if we don’t win? Nothing bad. We’re excited about presenting our product and the thought of winning keeps everyone here on the edge of their seat.
I’m hyped to spend 3 days out in Las Vegas, discussing Brandisty with everyone passionate about color pallets and vector image resizing, and hang with my team outside of the office. Win or lose, you can bet we’ll come back fired up to continue on boarding our awesome customers.
