OWN Cryptonite Level Design
Cryptonites are the central characters (and NFTs) in the OWN Cryptoverse. Each Cryptonite is genetically born in a crypto clan and a rarity level. It is also born with a set of body attributes it cannot change. Read more here.
Just like in real life, while one is born with a set of pre-defined attributes, there are some attributes one can simply earn through the course of life. Experience points (XP) is one such attribute in the OWN Cryptoverse. Gaining XP levels up the Cryptonite.
Each Cryptonite can have levels from 0 to 20. Playing games on the OWN platform gives experience points (XP) to the Cryptonite. As the Cryptonite gains XP, it levels up according to a logarithmic equation.
Below is how the correlation between experience points (XP) and levels would look like:
The progression is faster at the beginning and over time will slow down. XP and level progression is designed so that if you regularly use the Cryptonite to play games, it should increase by 10 levels within ~1 year. It will then take ~2 more years of regular play to gain an additional 10 levels. Thus, reaching the highest level of 20 in ~3 years.
As the Cryptonite climbs the level ladder, it unlocks higher rewards and more powers in the ecosystem.
Initial Levels
- Genesis Cryptonites — All genesis Cryptonites start at level 0. They are the seeders on the platform and start their journey from scratch. As they play in the game, they acquire XP and level themselves up. These levels are extremely valuable and help the Cryptonites unlock higher rewards in the ecosystem.
- Non-genesis Cryptonites — Just like in real life, some of the acquired XP are passed onto the offspring. Upon breeding, the offspring will get 1/7th of the XP points from each of the parents. Here is a sample calculation:
Other notable points
- Secondary sale of the Cryptonite will not result in any reduction or increment of XP of the NFT.
- Parents will not lose any XP upon breeding.
Gaining Experience Points (XP)
When entered into games on the OWN platform, the Cryptonites accumulate XP. Just like in real life, gaining XP levels up the Cryptonite and results in better outcomes in future gameplays. Each game will have a different formula for awarding the XP but would generally consist of 2 components:
- Participation XP — Awarded to the Cryptonite for participating in the game. This would vary from game to game, and would be a function of the game time and game complexity. Higher game time or higher complexity will be rewarded with a higher base XP.
- Game XP — Awarded to the winners in the game. This would also vary from game to game. Apart from the game time and complexity, this would also accommodate the probability of win for a player. Games which are tougher to win will reward with a higher game XP.

Why gain XP?
At this point, a reasonable question to ask is — Why should one put an effort to gain XP? What are the platform advantages of gaining XP?
Put simply, XP of an NFT is a proof of participation in games and win ratio for the player. Higher participation or higher win ratio will result in higher XP of the NFT. Higher XP translates into higher levels which unlocks better privileges and higher rewards on the platform. While each game will detail out these privileges and rewards before launch, here are a few:
- Breeding — A Cryptonite will need a minimum of 100 XP (reach Level 1) to start breeding.
- Crypto Fantasy — Each Cryptonite will get a 0.5% bonus on the base score while playing crypto fantasy. So, a Level 10 Cryptonite gets a 5% bonus on the base score.
