Editor’s Note: Join the Ontario Digital Service (ODS) to design and deliver the future of government services. Making them more convenient, reliable and accessible for people across our province. More info: ontario.ca/digitaljobs

In my first post on the ODS blog, I shared three things that we needed to get our work started: people, trust, and culture.

Those things are still the most important now, almost four years later. Our people are our driving force. Together with partners across ministries, the broader public sector and industry, we’re building a quicker, more flexible and collaborative culture, where people are at the centre of our products and services.

This past year proved how essential a people-centred culture is with the province’s response to COVID-19. Our rapid digital response to the pandemic has helped millions of Ontarians through open data, clear information on Ontario.ca, helpful screening tools, Ontario Together and the made-in-Ontario COVID Alert app. COVID-19.ontario.ca just passed 50 million users since it launched almost one year ago, and during the last year visits to Ontario.ca have increased 114%. People are depending on us for clear, simple, and accessible information and services.

If you want to be a part of a world-leading public service and help improve the lives of more than 14 million people across Ontario, consider joining the Ontario Digital Service — a passionate team with diverse backgrounds who are leading change through modern design, data and technology tools and practices. We work in multidisciplinary, inclusive, collaborative teams to create excellent digital experiences for people, businesses, and communities across the province.

We need Ontario’s best tech and design talent to scale our impact across the public sector and tackle some of the most important challenges of our time.

Together, while apart

Summing up a year like 2020 comes around once in a generation. Hard. Hopeful. Heroic. Was it a system error or a bug? We asked the people working in digital, data and tech inside government to look back on the year that was, and share their experiences serving the public when they needed us most. These are their reflections, in their own words.

Driving collaboration: how multidisciplinary teams iteratively update Ontario.ca

Businesses across Ontario have felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked Developer Kitty Yau, Senior Content Designer Lee Fay and UX Design Lead Lucia Hsieh to share their insights on how a multidisciplinary approach contributed to the quick launch of valuable resources on Ontario.ca.
