Frankenstein Should’ve Gone Into Business

Could’ve had the whole world in his hands.

With what he discovered in his apartment,
With what he’d found when he first gazed into his monster’s yellow eyes,
With that power over life and death he’d stolen from God,
He could’ve been filthy rich.

Dr. Frankenstein’s patented system,
Offers a 100% guarantee,
Of Loved One Resurrection,

Never say goodbye again™

It’s Alive! Inc.

He’d have been bigger than Apple,
His home in Germany,
A Silicon Valley for mad science,
Dr. Moreau,
And Dr. Griffin,
His chief competitors.

Protests would abound,
Shrill cries of,
“Don’t Play God!”
And “Leave Nature Be!”

All would cease,
Once he’d resurrected the first dead toddler,
Protests drowned,
By a mother’s tears of joy.

But what would the baby see,
For those few hours,
Between the time of death,
And when he was rushed,
To Frankenstein’s clinic?

What Sights,
Sounds,
Smells,
Tastes,
And Touches,
Would the child experience?

Frightening questions,
Of Life,
And Death,
Of Life,
And Afterlife,
Of Life,
And Heaven,
And Hell.

Frightening questions,
Whose answers have been spared us,
Until now.

With every resurrected soul,
Would surely come a tale,
Of what comes after.

Would this change our loved ones?

What happens to the soul,
What happens to the mind,
When it knows,
What comes after?

What comes after?

We have ideas,
We have theories,
We have myths,
We have hopes,
We have fears,
We have speculation,
We have educated guesses.

We have no fucking clue.

Humanity has forever lived with a mystery,
Accepting the unknowable,
Or supplanting it with a fantasy,
Or just living in a constant state,
Of dread and terror.

But what if it was no longer,
An unknown?

Would you want to know?
Or would you cower under the blankets,
And scream at people,
Who tried to answer a question,
You were too afraid to ask?
