Each week, 0Chain hosts an AMA with 0Chain’s Operations Director, Derick Fiebiger, to address questions from the community. Without further delay, let’s dive into this weeks address:

You can also listen via podcast.

Greeting

  • Welcome to AskFeebs — a weekly address where your questions on crypto and 0Chain are answered. I’m Derick Fiebiger, Director of Operations for 0Chain, and I thank you for joining me. Let’s hop into things.

0chain Highlights

  • Alpha:
    — Sas update: code updates ongoing. Another update next week optimizing the database so that storage is more scalable. So it will make 0box faster from the UX perspective.
    — A trend of rolling updates will be done to roll into BetaNetWill. This will eventually migrate to a beta net setup. Slowly transition into beta net by plugging in features.
    — Plan is to have payments, staking, different features for miners (and maybe split-key protocol) integrated into AlphaNet at different times. These are the “BetaNet rolling updates”
  • Beta
    — True BetaNet will allow external miners to plug in to signify the true launch of BetaNet
    — Working on 0Wallet in parallel at the time as Alpha.
—Not sure if split-key will be incorporated into this migration phase or added in BetaNet.
  • Service Provider:
    — Saswata is currently writing an article with sweeping information of commonly asked questions and also documenting all the questions. Within a week or two, a document will be released to help cover all the key points, comments, questions, and concerns.
    — More service provider information can be found on this article.

Questions

  • Will the 0chain mining software allow multiple miners to run on one mining rig (i.e., splitting up your stake in order to run multiple mining instances)?
    — It’s possible, but depends on the rig itself. This is recommended against on our end to facilitate decentralization, but in theory it may be possible to run more than miner if the hardware on that rig is robust enough.
    — Sas: If you’re going to run two, would rather you have two rigs, and perhaps run them in different geo locations to help better support the network
  • Are there details known about the reputation system that is used to select miners? In order to get selected, how much will come down to stake, and how much will come down to reputation?
    — The selection process is currently based entirely on stake. It utilizes a squared-staking selection process that creates a situation in which your chances of selection are “squared” or increased exponentially based on your stake quantity.
    — Sas: if your machine is slow you might earn less because you’ll miss your opportunity to generate blocks. Mining rigs need to be fast.
  • When and how will the 40m tokens allocated for “future offering” be used?
    — The 40m tokens will potentially be sold in the future to fund development and community growth. These tokens cannot be sold unless ZCN maintains a price level of $10 or higher.

That’s it guys thanks for watching. See you all in a week. You can post questions for next week’s episode live AMA with 0Chain CEO, Saswata Basu, by posting them on in our telegram group or our weekly Twitter post. Cheers!
