Coffee is awesome — it feels redundant to even say.

So, when television chef and personality, Alton Brown, suggested a way to make my morning cup of coffee even better, I had to try it.

Alton recommends adding 1/4 of a teaspoon to 6 tablespoons of ground coffee.

Here’s why…

1. The taste:

Coffee can have a bitter taste. Some love it, others try to mask it with sweeteners. Salt helps smooth out the taste, plus it helps bring out coffees sweet flavour tones.

2. Replenishes sodium:

Coffee can cause us to lose sodium. Adding a pinch of salt helps replenish it — albeit just a teeny bit.

3. Acidity levels:

If you suffer from acid reflux when drinking coffee, salt can help balance out its acidity.
