In the same style as my playlist for the Real Vocal Book, here’s my playlist for volume 1 of the New Real Book. This was the toughest project so far, because many of the songs were considerably newer, and instrumentals. I learned a lot from SecondHandSongs (where I joined the editorial team in the process) and eventually ended up with a much more comprehensive list than I’d thought possible initially. I also developed more appreciation for newer Jazz (although I still don’t have a lot of love for all the smooth jazz featured in the New Real Book).
