The biggest myth about weight loss is that you need to eat healthily — you can eat only junk food and still lose weight.

Nutrition professor Mark Haub lost 27 pounds doing just this. In what’s become famous as the “Twinkie diet” — for 10 weeks, Haub ate solely junk such as Twinkies, Doritos, Little Debbies, and Oreos.

As baffling as this might seem, the reason is—the only way to lose weight is to be in an energy deficit. And from a purely weight-loss perspective, what you eat doesn’t matter as much as the number of calories you consume.

And for the same reason, as long as you control the quantities, you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight — like the Twinkie diet, you can have a Pizza diet, Big Mac diet, or a fried chicken diet.

Now the million-dollar question. Is a “Junk food diet” healthy?

Absolutely no. There’s a reason it's called junk — all the sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, sodium, and processing chemicals can seriously harm your health.
