Love is an open door…

Today was a big day! Everything is really starting to come together and the end is in sight. First, we have a floor. Like, a real floor, not just the subfloor.

Flooring is Stainmaster Essence Mineral Stone Low-Gloss Finish Sheet Vinyl; purchased at Lowe’s of Lewistown, PA

Isn’t it gorgeous? I love it! And no, it’s not tile. It’s just sheet vinyl that looks like tile. Have I mentioned how much I love it? No? I love it!

On the floor, he also installed the drip pan for the washer. This is an important step for a laundry room that’s on the living floor of your home. In the basement, if the washer decided to flood, it went across a concrete floor and into the floor drain. Upstairs? If the washer decides to flood, we’d now have flooring issues, and leaks, and much more damage. The solution? A drip pan with installed drain.

Left: Washer drip pan and dryer exhaust. Middle: Dryer exhaust installed. Right: Drip pan drain from below (yet to be connected).

Nothing fancy to look at, but the reality is that you won’t see much of it when the washer/dryer is sitting on top. In the corner of the picture, you can also see the dryer vent running through the floor. It will vent to the outside through the existing exhaust hood in the basement.

And now, we have a door!

Even with the door closed, the bathroom (while it looked small on paper and taped out on the floor) is actually shaping up to be more spacious than envisioned, which is a good thing!

There is plenty of clearance for the door to open and not hit the drip pan; which was a concern of mine. And things are aligned in a way that we should have easy access to the washer/dryer with the bathroom door open or closed — something my friends expressed concern about when we were soliciting original design opinions.

It’s all taking shape and it’s so much fun to see our vision and planning come to life!

What’s next you ask?

Here’s a sneak peek. What’s inside will stay a surprise until next week…
