Intro to Painnt for iOS
Welcome! Thanks for installing Painnt. We put a lot of work to give you a powerful and easy to use tool to truly transform your pics into awesome art pieces. Here’s a few basic steps to help you get on your way to becoming a master digital artist.

Using Painnt takes basically 4 steps:
- Select a style you want to use
- Choose your input photo
- Preview and tweak the style
- Save and share your result
Warning! Using Painnt can become addictive, and you can be trapped for hours! :). Let’s go through each of these steps in detail.
1. Select a style
In the Home screen you can browse the different styles available.
The task is to choose one you like! New styles will appear first on the Home screen, and if you scroll down, you will find them in categories (mosaic, classic, trippy, etc.). Note: some styles are subscription only, marked with the Gem icon.
For this article, we tapped on style “Wine”.
2. Choose your input
A pop-up box will appear in the middle of the screen where you can select the source to import your photo:
- Photo library: Choose a photo from your Camera roll
- Take Picture: Open the camera and shoot a photo to style
- Canvas: Doodle or sketch any drawing and then apply a style to it (subscription only)
Once selected, you can crop your picture
Drag the white selection corners to crop your image. Select the third icon (before Done) to change the crop ratio (square, original, 16:9, etc.), or tap the circling arrow to change the image.
3. Preview and tweak style
In the next screen Painnt allows you to customize each style’s settings and observe the changes to your photo.
Pro tip: If you just want to skip this step, just tap on the top-right save/share icon to proceed to save and share your result.
Painnt is a PRO tool and provides lots of settings to tweak your photo just the way you want it to look! You can see all the settings by swiping down and scrolling the white area below the preview photo. Find a cheat sheet here to learn how each setting can modify your photo.
Pro tip: you can adjust the divider in between the preview photo and the settings to adjust more or less space.
The changes take a little bit to apply, so if you move the sliders it will take a second or two for the update.
The Output will determine the dimensions your final artwork will have. This is always subject to the original image’s size and your device’s processing capabilities — but in general the output size will be:
- Medium: 700 px
- HD: 1200 px
- FHD: 1920 px (subscription only).
- 4K: 4000 px (subscription only).
- Orig: The original size of the input (subscription only).

When you’re ready to see the final results, tap on the “Save / Share” icon at the top right of the screen to create your masterpiece. The rendering process is done entirely on your device, meaning we do not style your photos on remote servers. This allows a lower data usage for you, as well as guaranteeing the privacy of your images, as opposed to other apps.
Pro tip: To pin your favorite styles to the top of the Home screen, just open the style and scroll to the bottom of the Preview screen. Tap on the “Mark as Favorite” toggle to bookmark the current effect you’re using, and it will show up first next time you open the app.
5. Save and share
Congratulations! You’ve successfully created a gorgeous masterpiece.
It’s time to save or share it with your friends and family!
To export the painting, you have a couple options at the bottom of the screen:
- Instagram icon: Tap the button and you will be taken to the Instagram app to share your artwork (works for photos and timelapses).
- Facebook icon: Tap this button to share your artwork to your Facebook profile.
- Save: Tap the “Save” icon to download to your Camera roll
- More: Tap the three dots to open a second menu

Extras: Apply a frame
To achieve a “gallery painting” look, you may also choose from our wide selection of frames by clicking on the “Frame” icon at the top right of the screen.
To remove a frame from your painting, just tap the “Back” arrow at the top left of the Preview screen.
Extra: Create a Timelapse
Curious to see how your artwork gets “painnted”? Tap on the Timelapse button (top right) and get a quick animation of how our neural networks apply “brushstrokes” to your image and achieve the final result. Download it to your device, or share it on Instagram and make your friends jealous of your artistic talent!
Extra: Unlock Painnt
Ready to take your “painnt-ing” game to the next level? Tap on the Premium icon to access our full effects library, hide the watermark from your photos and download your creations in HD!
Extra: Reset settings
If you wish to start from scratch, just scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap “Reset settings” to erase the modifications applied to the style and restore the default values.
Pro tip: To see other styles with the same look to the one you have selected, tap on “Related effects” to browse and apply styles that have a similar feel to the one you are working on.
