Dear PAL Network readers,

October was an eventful month for us with all the business and tech updates, as well as the consecutive listings on three big-name exchanges, Bittrex, Upbit, Kucoin.

I am very thrilled to end off the month on a good note as I was in attendance of Fintech Japan 2018 last week.

Fintech Japan 2018 is a Fintech conference held in Tokyo sponsored by multinational corporations such as Mastercard. Industry heavyweights graced the fintech conference, as we kicked off with an informal networking session before the Director and Co-Founder of Fintech association of Japan officiated the start of Fintech Japan 2018 with her opening remarks.

Blockchain — Threat, Opportunity or Hype?

I was on the speakers’ list alongside Alexey Troshivhew, Founder and CEO of Distributed Ledgers, Chris Dai, LONGHASH Japan CEO and Rhian Lewis, Co-Founder of CountMyCrypto. It was a fruitful discussion around the topic of blockchain technology adoption and its influence on the traditional financial services sector.

Views on the disruptive technology were pretty congenial, as we all build upon one another’s viewpoints based on personal entrepreneurial journeys. We are seeing many financial institutions running successful pilots with blockchain technology, yet only a few blockchain-based solutions are being placed into full production. Regardless, financial institutions are making substantial progress in leveraging on the new technology. JP Morgan’s permissioned public blockchain was one of the few case studies that were brought up during the discussion.

Taking It up a Notch

We moved up a gear the following day with a fireside chat with Yuki Kishi, Fintech Director of Plug and Play Japan. The underlying theme of the session was about blockchain in insurance, as I had the honour to share my views on the importance of blockchain technology in insurance, the current landscape of InsurTech, and how PAL Network intends to work towards our projected exponential growth in the next 5 to 10 years.

I took this opportunity to share the key benefits of PAL Network for insurance. PAL‘s mission to bridge the gap between insurance providers and consumers is reflected through our product development — showcased in our upcoming mainnet launch that will include a PAL Partners dashboard. The dashboard is created with the intent to smooth out the creation process of modular insurance products on our very own blockchain.

In Summary

Overall, it has been a tremendous two days of learning about breakthrough innovations with co-creation, the potential of Artificial Intelligence and gearing up for a cashless society by 2020. Fintech Japan 2018 has been a success, and we could not have asked for other ways to wrap up our October.

November, we are ready for you.

Signing out,

Val Yap

CEO and Founder of PolicyPal and PAL Network
