Latest Polkadot News

  • XCM: The Cross-Consensus Message Format: Gavin Wood has written up a primer on XCM, the cross-consensus messaging format.
  • XCM Part II: Versioning and Compatibility: In the first article Gavin wrote on XCM, he introduced its basic architecture, goals and how it could be used for some simple use cases. In this article, we will move on to inspect one interesting aspect of XCM in-depth: how XCM can change over time without introducing breakage between the very networks it is meant to connect.
  • XCM Part III: Execution and Error Management: In this article, discusses its underlying design and execution model. Since XCM is based around the instruction set of the XCVM, a very high-level virtual machine, this amounts to becoming familiar with this machine architecture.

Kusama

Remember to update your Kusama nodes to 0.9.10 BEFORE MONDAY 11 OCT (block 9_611_377). When the next runtime upgrade occurs, older nodes will be unable to sync with the network.

Roadmap

Current Phase: Parachain Rollout
The launch of Polkadot began a year ago with the first four phases; the last — a move to complete decentralisation and permissionlessness — happened finally at the end of July last year. Now, phase five, the final phase in the launch of Polkadot is beginning.

Future Upgrades

Polkadot upgrades currently under development include upgrades to XCMP (Cross-Chain Message Passing) and the launch of parathreads. These and any subsequent upgrades can be enabled by Polkadot’s on-chain governance community once development, testing, benchmarking, and auditing are complete.

Bridges

Bifrost

Bifrost has developed an EOS network bridge that enables trustless cross-chain asset transfer by implementing on-chain light nodes with merkle tree verification.

This v0.9.1 update contains:

-Enabling vsKSM and vsBond transfers

-Implement SALP Farming module

SALP Farming module will give derivatives mining play, stake your $vsKSM & $vsBond to the Farming Pool and get a mining reward from BNC + bidding parachain Candidates.

Centrifuge

The ChainBridge allows Centrifuge to move fungible and NFTs between chains, enabling the financing of real-world assets in a variety of DeFi products.

ChainX

ChainX, a crypto assets gateway, is planning bridges to several networks and has implemented a BTC to Substrate bridge.

Darwinia

Darwinia is building a permissionless non-custodial bridge protocol featuring efficient, low-cost decentralization of cross-chain tokens and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) transfers, as well as other cross-chain operations.

  • StaFi Q4 Roadmap Exploration on an open staking derivative platform: In Q4, the team will continue to develop new rTokens. As people are deepening their understanding of staking derivatives, they believe that StaFi will be more widely adopted gradually. The current projects built on CosmosSDK or Substrate will be able to leverage StaFi Open Platform in the future to realize the cooperative development of rToken, which will also greatly speed up the development of rToken and allow more developers to work on Staking Derivatives together. StaFi Open Platform will also be a major development work in Q4 and even the next half year.
  • StaFi Protocol Monthly-September Community Updates: In September, the rMATIC and rBNB App were successfully launched on the StaFi mainnet. At the same time, preparations for launching the rSOL App were completed and the official launch is expected in early October.
  • Meanwhile, the Yield Farming campaign jointly released by StaFi, Liqee and dForce has greatly contributed to StaFi’s TVL and we have kept the community updated with the detailed TVL growth figures.
